Sharad Kumar (athlete)
Sharad Kumar (born 1 March 1992) is an Indian para high jumper and a former world no. 1. Born in Muzaffarpur, he made his International debut at the 2010 Asian Para Games. At the 2014 Asian Para Games, he won the gold medal in the high jump ( T42), breaking a 12-year Asian Games record, and reclaimed the world no. 1 position. Kumar participated in the 2016 Summer Paralympics finishing sixth. He won Silver in 2017 World ParaAthletics Championships. He is supported by GoSports Foundation through the Para Champions Programme. Early life Sharad Kumar was born on 1 March 1992 in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. At the age of two, he suffered paralysis of his left leg after taking spurious polio medicine at a local eradication drive. Sharad studied at St. Paul's School (Darjeeling) where he started high jump in Class 7. He broke school and district records competing against able-bodied athletes. Sharad Kumar (born 28 October 1955) is a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, who is Vigilance Commissioner of the Central Vigilance Commission and former Director General (DG) of National Investigation Agency. On superannuation he was employed, in the same post, on contract for period of one year. As a contractor, he is not bound by the All India Service rule norms. Background and education Sharad Kumar is a Graduate in Science (BSc). Kumar was born in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Graduation from Bareilly college, Bareilly. Career As an IPS Kumar joined the Haryana cadre of the Indian Police Service in 1979. His previous post was director general (prisons) in Haryana. Personal life Sharad Chauhan was born to Zile Singh (father) and Vidhya Devi on 29 June 1975 in Narela (Nerela) area of Delhi. He has two elder brothers. His eldest brother, Akhil Chauhan, is an engineer and a District Manager in Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) in Rohini. His second brother, Vikas Chauhan is a doctor and owns a hospital in Mumbai. He is married to Reeta Chauhan (Reeta) and has two sons Abhinav and Archit.
