Shaqlawa District ( ku, قەزای شەقڵاوە, Qezay Şeqlawe, ar, قضاء شقلاوة) is a district in the Erbil Governorate, Iraq. This district encompasses three sub-districts Hiran, Salahaddin and Harir, and 210 villages. Shaqlawa
Shaqlawa ( ku, شەقڵاوە, Şeqlawe, ar, شقلاوة, ) is a historic city and a hill station in the Erbil Governorate in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Shaqlawa, a city of approximately 25,500 people, lies 51 km to the northeast of Erbil, at the bottom of Safeen mountain. Shaqlawa is situated between Safeen mountain and Sork mountain, and sits 1066 m above sea level. The city is known for its waterfalls, trees, and greenery. Governorates Of Iraq
Iraq consists of 19 governorates ( ar, محافظة, muḥāfażah; ckb, پارێزگا , parêzgeh), also known as "provinces". Per the Iraqi constitution, governorates can form an autonomous region. Four governorates, Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok, and Halabja, constitute the autonomous Kurdistan Region. Baghdad (which is the most populous) and Basra are the oldest standing provinces of Iraq. The second most-populous province, Ninawa (also called Nineveh) is in the upland and quite cool climate of the north-west. Through early 2014, the Council of Ministers of the government of Iraq approved proposals to add the three newest governorates: *Tal Afar, from part of Ninawa Governorate *Tuz Khurmatu, from part of Saladin Governorate *Halabja from part of the Sulaymaniyah Governorate. Erbil, also called Hawler (, ar, أربيل, Arbīl; syr, ܐܲܪܒܹܝܠ, Arbel), is the capital and most populated city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It lies in the Erbil Governorate. Harir, Iraq
Harir ( ar, حرير, ku, ھەریر, Harîr) is a town and sub-district in Erbil Governorate in Kurdistan Region, Iraq. The town is located in the Shaqlawa District. In the town, there was a church of Mar Yohanna. History Harir is mentioned by Evliya Çelebi in ''Seyahatnâme'' in the 17th century as part of Kurdistan. The district was ruled by Mir Xanzad of the Soran Emirate during the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Murad IV (). The town was rebuilt in 1928 by Assyrian refugees, all of whom were adherents of the Church of the East and were originally from Shemsdin in the Hakkari mountains in Turkey, after they had departed the refugee camp at Baqubah in the aftermath of the Assyrian genocide in the First World War. The church of Mar Yohanna was built soon after. By 1938, Harir was inhabited by 485 Assyrians in 78 families.
