Jonathan Edwards (born July 28, 1946) is an American singer-songwriter and musician best known for his 1971 hit single " Sunshine". Early years Jonathan Edwards was born John Evan Edwards on July 28, 1946 in Aitkin, Minnesota. At the age of six, he moved with his family to Virginia where he grew up. At the age of eight, he began singing in church and learning to play piano by ear. While attending Fishburne Military School, he began playing guitar and composing his own songs. As a teenager he began performing in front of audiences. While studying art at Ohio University, he became a fixture at local clubs, playing with a variety of rock, folk, and blues bands. Jef Labes is an American keyboardist and musician. He is best known from his work with Van Morrison and Bonnie Raitt. Jef Labes has also arranged for string and woodwind instruments on numerous albums. Career Labes started his recording career with the Boston-based Apple Pie Motherhood Band, playing piano and organ on the albums ''Apple Pie & Motherhood'' (1968), composing four of the tracks himself and ''Apple Pie'' (1969), this time composing one track. The band split up later in 1969 and would not make another album. In the same year Labes moved to Woodstock to join Van Morrison as a live musician. At this time Labes had been shown the music for three songs off Morrison's "classic" album ''Astral Weeks'' in the studio, and was recording with the band Morrison had used for the album. William Bradford "Bill" Keith (December 20, 1939 – October 23, 2015) was a five-string banjoist who made a significant contribution to the stylistic development of the instrument. In the 1960s he introduced a variation on the popular "Scruggs style" of Banjo#Five-string banjo, banjo playing (an integral element of bluegrass music) which would soon become known as melodic style, or "Keith style". Professional career Keith was born in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. He attended Amherst College and graduated in 1961. The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music enthusiast David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. The chart was re-branded the Australian Music Report (AMR) in July 1987. From June 1988, the Australian Recording Industry Association, which had been using the top 50 portion of the report under licence since mid-1983, chose to produce their own listing as the ARIA Charts. Before the Kent Report, ''Go-Set'' magazine published weekly Top-40 Singles from 1966, and Album charts from 1970 until the magazine's demise in August 1974. David Kent later published Australian charts from 1940 to 1973 in a retrospective fashion, using state by state chart data obtained from various Australian radio stations. "Sunshine" is a country folk song from 1971 by Jonathan Edwards, released as the first single from his debut album '' Jonathan Edwards''. The single reached #4 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart on January 15, 1972, and earned a gold record. "Sunshine" was not originally planned for release, but when an engineer accidentally erased the master of a track called "Please Find Me" near the end of sessions for the album, "Sunshine" was used to fill the hole. The song was released as a single and first gained popularity on Boston radio, before going nationwide. Regarding its success, Edwards stated, "It was just at the time of the Vietnam War and Nixon. It was looking bad out there. That song meant a lot to a lot of people during that time--especially me." Capricorn Records was an independent record label founded by Phil Walden and Frank Fenter in 1969 in Macon, Georgia. Capricorn Records is often credited by music historians as creating the southern rock genre. History Label and studio founding In the early 60s, Phil Walden and his brother Alan Walden had made a family business of managing and representing R&B performers including Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Al Green, and Percy Sledge. As Redding's fame grew internationally, the partners founded Redwal Music, purchased a four-building block in downtown Macon, and opened a small office space a few blocks away on Cotton Avenue.
