Shanghai Railway Station Station
Shanghai Railway Station () is an interchange station between lines 1, 3 and 4 on the Shanghai Metro. It is one of the stations where Line 3 and Line 4 share the same tracks and elevated platforms. The transfer between Line 1 and lines 3 and 4 is actually quite long. Both metro stations are located on the opposing sides of the train station with a long tunnel connecting both platforms. In addition to being an interchange between metro lines, the station facilitates transfer to Shanghai's main railway station. A tunnel leads directly from the concourse of the metro station to the concourse of the railway station. This station served as the northern terminus of Line 1 before the extension to Gongfu Xincun opened on 28 December 2004. Jing'an District
Jing'an District () is one of the central districts of Shanghai. In 2014, it had 1,180,000 inhabitants in an area of . The district borders the Hongkou District to the east, Huangpu District, Shanghai, Huangpu District to the east and south, Putuo District, Shanghai, Putuo District to the west, Baoshan District, Shanghai, Baoshan District to the north and Changning District to the west. On 4 November 2015 Zhabei District merged with Jing'an District, bringing Shanghai down to 15 districts and one county. Jing'an District is named after Jing'an Temple, an ancient traditional Chinese Buddhist temple. Today's temple is a new replica of the old one, located in the southern part of the district. Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. An alternative arrangement is to position side platforms on either side of the tracks. The historical use of island platforms depends greatly upon the location. Suzhou Creek
Suzhou Creek (or Soochow Creek), also called the Wusong (Woosung) River, is a river that passes through the Shanghai city center. It is named after the neighboring city of Suzhou (Soochow), Jiangsu, the predominant settlement in this area prior to the rise of Shanghai as a metropolis. One of the principal outlets of Lake Tai in Wujiang District of Suzhou, Suzhou Creek is long, of which 54 km are within the administrative region of Shanghai and 24 km within the city's highly urbanized parts. It flows into the Huangpu River at the northern end of the Bund in Huangpu District. History The river was originally called "Song Jiang" ("Pine River"). Hanzhong Road () is the name of an interchange station between Line 1 (Shanghai Metro), Line 1, Line 12 (Shanghai Metro), Line 12, and Line 13 (Shanghai Metro), Line 13 of the Shanghai Metro, located in Jing'an District north of Suzhou Creek within the inner ring-road of Shanghai.
