Shane Sutton
Shane Edwin Sutton OBE (born 13 June 1957 in Moree, New South Wales) is an Australian-born former professional racing cyclist turned cycling coach, whose last position was as Technical Director for British Cycling. Racing career He rode under Phil Griffiths as a member of the first British-based professional team to enter the Tour de France in 1987 and went on to win the 1990 Milk Race. Sutton was also one of the four men to win gold in the team pursuit for Australia at the 1978 Commonwealth Games along with his brother, Gary Sutton. Coaching career After retiring Shane worked as a coach with Welsh Cycling, taking the team to a successful Manchester Commonwealth Games before joining the British Cycling set-up in 2002. He was also employed as head coach at Team Sky but scaled back his involvement to become a part-time performance adviser for the professional team in 2013. Moree, New South Wales
Moree is a town in Moree Plains Shire in northern New South Wales, Australia. It is located on the banks of the Mehi River, in the centre of the rich black-soil plains. The town is located at the junction of the Newell Highway and Gwydir Highway and can be reached by daily train and air services from Sydney. The Weraerai and Kamilaroi peoples are the earliest known inhabitants of the area, and the town's name is said to come from an Aboriginal word for "rising sun," "long spring," or "water hole". The town was settled by Europeans in the 1850s, and local Aboriginal residents were placed in missions, later Aboriginal reserves. 1978 Commonwealth Games
The 1978 Commonwealth Games were held in Edmonton, Alberta from 3 to 12 August 1978, two years after the 1976 Summer Olympics were held in Montreal, Quebec. They were boycotted by Nigeria, in protest at New Zealand's sporting contacts with apartheid-era South Africa, as well as by Uganda, in protest at alleged Canadian hostility towards the government of Idi Amin. The Bid Election was held at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. This was the first Commonwealth Games where a computerised system was used to handle ticket sales. These were the first Commonwealth Games to be named ''Commonwealth Games'', having dropped ''British''. The Games were opened by Queen Elizabeth II for the first time since becoming Queen in 1952. UK Coaching is the professional association for sports coaches in the United Kingdom. It is a sports development charitable foundation. History Until recently it was known as sports coach UK. Previously it was called the National Coaching Foundation (NCF), founded in 1983. Its motto was ''Better Coaching..... Better Sport''. It was incorporated as a company on 23 January 1987. Origination It was first sited at Leeds Polytechnic. UK Sport is the government agency responsible for investing in Olympic and Paralympic sport in the United Kingdom. It is an executive non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport. It was created following a "rock bottom" showing at the 1996 Summer Olympics where Team GB won just one solitary gold medal. Team GB and Paralympics GB went on to place third in the medal table at London 2012 and second in the table at Rio 2016. Jessica Varnish
Jessica Varnish (born 19 November 1990) is a former British track cyclist. Varnish was part of the 2014 world record holding European Championships team sprint champions and is a multiple medalist at the World Championships. Biography Jessica Varnish was born in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire on 19 November 1990, the daughter of James "Jim" Varnish, a keen cyclist. She attended South Bromsgrove High School. At the age of 14, Varnish competed unofficially at the 2006 Junior World Championships in Belgium. She took a second off the British 500m standing start record, setting a new time of 37.1 seconds. She made her GB Cycling debut at the Austrian Junior International in January 2006. She became a member of British Cycling's Olympic Development Programme whilst still a junior. Darren Kenny
Darren Kenny (born 17 March 1970) is a British road and track racing cyclist and Paralympian. Kenny's results have made him one of his sport's biggest stars; his dominance over multiple Paralympics gave rise to his nickname of 'Daz the Destroyer'. Darren Kenny OBE retired from competition in 2013. He is now the founder/owner of Estrella Career Born in Salisbury, Wiltshire, Kenny now lives in Verwood, Dorset. Having been involved in cycling since he was young, Kenny started racing at the age of eleven. Sir David John Brailsford (born 29 February 1964) is a British cycling coach. He was formerly performance director of British Cycling and is currently general manager of UCI WorldTeam . Early life Brailsford was born in Shardlow, Derbyshire, and moved as a toddler with his parents and siblings to Deiniolen, near Caernarfon in Wales: He attended Ysgol Deiniolen and Ysgol Brynrefail, and learned Welsh. Telegraphy is the long-distance transmission of messages where the sender uses symbolic codes, known to the recipient, rather than a physical exchange of an object bearing the message. Thus flag semaphore is a method of telegraphy, whereas pigeon post is not.
