''Shamus'' is a flip-screen shooter with light action-adventure game elements written by Cathryn Mataga (credited as William Mataga) and published by Synapse Software. The original Atari 8-bit family version is 16K in size and was released on disk and tape in 1982. The game was ported to the Apple II, VIC-20, Commodore 64, TRS-80 Color Computer, TI-99/4A, and IBM PC. Several of these were published by Atarisoft. It was later sold on cartridge by Atari Corporation following the launch of the Atari XEGS in 1987. ''Shamus'' is a 1973 American comedy thriller film directed by Buzz Kulik, and starring Burt Reynolds and Dyan Cannon. The word "shamus" means "detective" in Yiddish. Plot summary New York private detective Shamus McCoy is called to the house of Hume, an eccentric diamond dealer, and is given the task of recovering some stolen diamonds. His investigation is thwarted at every turn and it is only when he is beaten by a gang of thugs to warn him off the job that he realizes that he's onto something really big. Using his friend Springy as well as Alexis Montaigne, the sister of a nightclub owner, McCoy digs for the truth about the robbery. The trail leads to an Army colonel called Hardcore who is in cahoots with Alexis's brother, then full circle to Hume, who is behind the plot all along. Shamus Culhane
James H. "Shamus" Culhane (November 12, 1908 – February 2, 1996) was an American animator, film director, and film producer. He is best known for his work in the Golden age of American animation. Career Shamus Culhane worked for a number of American animation studios, including Fleischer Studios, the Ub Iwerks studio, Walt Disney Animation Studios, and Walter Lantz Productions. He began his animation career in 1925 working for Bray Productions on the Dinky Doodle series, produced under the supervision of Walter Lantz. After Bray he served as an inker on Ben Harrison’s and Manny Gould’s Krazy Kat cartoons before moving to Fleischer Studios in 1929 after producer Charles Mintz did not retain him upon transferring the studio to Hollywood. Shamus Rahman Khan (born October 8, 1978) is an American sociologist. He is a professor of sociology and American Studies at Princeton University. Formerly he served as chair of the sociology department at Columbia University. He writes on elites, inequality, gender/sexuality, and American culture. His work has appeared in numerous national and international media outlets. Early life Khan was born in New York to M. Akmal Khan, a surgeon, and Maura Khan, a nurse, both immigrants from Pakistan and Ireland, respectively. He has an older brother, Omar Khan, who has a PhD in Political Science from Oxford and was the director of the Runnymede Trust until 2020 and is currently the Director of the Centre for Transforming Access and Student Outcomes in Higher Education (TASO). William Shamus O'Brien (November 29, 1907 in Neilston, Scotland – November 28, 1981 in Bangor, Maine) was a U.S.-Scottish soccer inside left. During his Hall of Fame career, O'Brien spent eight seasons in the first American Soccer League and another five in the second American Soccer League. Youth While born in Scotland, O'Brien's family immigrated to the United States when he was eleven. They initially settled in Newport News, Virginia when his father was hired by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company. ''Tracey McBean'' is an Australian animated children's television series produced by Southern Star Entertainment and Film Australia. The show was aired from 2001 until 2006 on ABC Kids. Overview The main protagonist, Tracey, is a young nine-year-old girl who goes to school with her best friend Shamus. Together they use Tracey's inventions for all kinds of purposes, such as school competitions or simply for fun. Tracey lives in a house and Shamus on the 15th floor of a tall apartment building. Shamu (unknown – August 16, 1971) was a captive orca that appeared in shows at SeaWorld San Diego in the mid/late 1960s. She was the fourth orca ever captured, and the second female. She was caught in October 1965 and died in August 1971, after about six years of captivity. After her death, the name Shamu continued to be used in SeaWorld "Shamu" shows for different orcas in different SeaWorld parks. Early life Shamu was the first known intentional live capture of a healthy orca as the three previous captures (Wanda, Moby Doll and Namu) had been more opportunistic. ''Shamu'' was the stage name used for several captive performing orcas at SeaWorld as part of their theatrical ''Shamu show'' beginning in 1960s. The original Shamu died in 1971, but the name was trademarked by SeaWorld and has been given to different orcas throughout the years.
