A shamrock is a young sprig, used as a symbol of Ireland. Saint Patrick, Ireland's patron saint, is said to have used it as a metaphor for the Christian Holy Trinity. The name ''shamrock'' comes from Irish (), which is the diminutive of the Irish word and simply means "young clover". Dundas Shamrocks Junior Rugby League Football Club
The Dundas Shamrocks Junior Rugby League Football Club was formed in the mid-1960s as an attachment to St Patrick's Marist College Dundas' sports auxiliary for weekend rugby league within the Balmain Junior Rugby League competition. In the mid-1990s the school sports auxiliary ceased to exist and the club was rechristened the Dundas Shamrocks. The club has been a member of the Balmain Junior Rugby League since its inception in the 1960s and provides teams for age groups from under 6's to A-Grade. The club headquarters are located at the St Patrick's Marist College Dundas, on the corner of Kissing Point Road and Kirby Street, Dundas. The ground boasts some of the most magnificent fields (international and mod) within the Balmain Junior Rugby League and has excellent canteen and change room facilities. Ballinderry Shamrocks GAC ( ga, Baile an Doire na Seamróga CLG) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Ballinderry, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The Hespeler Shamrocks are a junior ice hockey team based in Hespeler, Ontario, Canada. They are currently members of the Provincial Junior Hockey League. The team was known as the Simcoe Storm from 1989-2017 and had played in Simcoe, Ontario since 1959 before relocating in 2018. History The Simcoe Juniors were founded in 1959 as members of the Niagara District Junior B Hockey League. A season later, they took the name "Pacers". In 1961, the Simcoe Pacers jumped to the Central Junior C Hockey League. They soon changed their names to the Simcoe Blades. 1965 championship run The Simcoe Blades finished their sixth season, fourth in the Central Jr. C league, with a record of 26 wins and only five losses. With first place clinched, the Blades met the pesky Hespeler Shamrocks in the Central League quarter-final. Montreal Shamrocks
The Montreal Shamrocks were an amateur, later professional, and then amateur again men's ice hockey club in existence from 1886 to 1924, based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. They were spun off from the Montreal Shamrocks lacrosse club. Starting off as an independent club and briefly playing in the AHAC, the team became a permanent fixture in the early amateur leagues, when in 1895 they merged with the Montreal Crystals and replaced them midway through the 1895 season in the AHAC. The club eventually went professional and played one season in the National Hockey Association (NHA), the predecessor of today's National Hockey League. Afterwards, with the cost of professionalism being too expensive, the team reverted to an amateur club and played into the 1920s in various amateur leagues. The Parry Sound Shamrocks were a Junior ice hockey team from Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada that played in the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League. History The Shamrocks were originally formed in 1994 as a member of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League, but in 1999 the team made the move to the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League from 1994 to 2002. Parry Sound made the Northern Ontario Junior A Hockey League finals against the Rayside-Balfour Sabrecats in their final two seasons in the NOJHA in 1998 and 1999. The Shamrocks lost both final series. Over the summer of 1999, the Parry Sound Shamrocks moved to the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League, where the team had planned to cut travel costs. The plan worked, but the Shamrocks managed to accumulate debts over $80,000.
