Shamama Hasanova
Shamama Mahmudali gizi Hasanova (Arayatlı, 7 November 1923 – Baku, 5 September 2008; az, Şamama Mahmudəli qızı Həsənova) was an Azerbaijani cotton grower and politician. Work Since 1942, Hasanova worked gathering cotton at a collective farm in the Fuzuli District of the Azerbaijan SSR, where she led a Komsomol team. In 1947, she was awarded the Hero of Socialist Labour title for high crop yields, becoming the first cotton grower in the Soviet Union to receive this distinction. She was awarded the title again in 1950. In 1953 she became the chair of the 1st of May collective farm. In 1966 she graduated from the Azerbaijan State Agricultural University. Politics Hasanova was a delegate to the 20th and 23rd Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. She also served as a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union from the 4th to the 11th convocations. She served as vice-chair of the Soviet of the Union between 1960 and 1974. Great Soviet Encyclopedia
The ''Great Soviet Encyclopedia'' (GSE; ) is one of the largest Russian-language encyclopedias, published in the Soviet Union from 1926 to 1990. After 2002, the encyclopedia's data was partially included into the later ''Bolshaya rossiyskaya entsiklopediya'' (or '' Great Russian Encyclopedia'') in an updated and revised form. The GSE claimed to be "the first Marxist–Leninist general-purpose encyclopedia". Origins The idea of the ''Great Soviet Encyclopedia'' emerged in 1923 on the initiative of Otto Schmidt, a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In early 1924 Schmidt worked with a group which included Mikhail Pokrovsky, (rector of the Institute of Red Professors), Nikolai Meshcheryakov (Former head of the Glavit, the State Administration of Publishing Affairs), Valery Bryusov (poet), Veniamin Kagan (mathematician) and Konstantin Kuzminsky to draw up a proposal which was agreed to in April 1924. Basti Bagirova
Basti Masim gizi Bagirova ( Bağçakürd, 10 April 1906 – Bağçakürd, 27 February 1962; az, Bəsti Məsim qızı Bağırova) was an Azerbaijani cotton grower and politician. She is known as one of the first Stakhanovites in the Azerbaijan SSR. Work In 1930, Bagirova started working at the Voroshilov agricultural artel, which would later become a collective farm. This farm would eventually be named after Bagirova. In 1953, Bagirova was elected as chair of the collective farm. She held this position until her death in 1962. Politics Basi Bagirova was a member of the Communist Party since 1937. She was a member the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union from the 1st to the 3rd convocations. She was also member of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan SSR during 4th and 5th convocations, and member of the Presidium during the 5th convocation. The Medal "For Labour Valour" (russian: Медаль «За трудовую доблесть») was a civilian labour award of the Soviet Union bestowed to especially deserving workers to recognise and honour dedicated and valorous labour or significant contributions in the fields of science, culture or the manufacturing industry. It was established on December 27, 1938 by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. During its existence, its statute was amended three times by further decrees, first on June 19, 1943 to amend its description and ribbon, then on December 16, 1947 to amend its regulations, and finally on July 18, 1980 to confirm all previous amendments. During its existence of just over fifty years, it was bestowed to almost two million deserving citizens. The medal ceased to be awarded following the December 1991 dissolution of the Soviet Union.
