Sham (play)
''Sham'' is a 1920 one-act stage play by Frank G. Tompkins. Described as ''A Social Satire'', it was about a thief who is caught robbing a couple's home. Plot Consisting of four characters, the comedy is set in a room of a house in a wealthy area. A cultured thief is attempting to rob the house, after he has stolen fine art from other houses in the area, but he finds the objects in the house are of poor quality. The owners of the house, Clara and Charles, come home unexpectedly after supposedly being at the theatre (they were actually at a movie). The thief informs them that, if he does not steal something from them, they will be disgraced as people find out their home contains no real fine works. Beulah Zachary (August 13, 1911 – February 3, 1959) was an American television director and producer. Early life and career Beulah May Zachary was born in Brevard, North Carolina on August 13, 1911, to parents William and Beulah Zachary. She attended Salem College, and intended to become a teacher. ''The Chevrolet Tele-Theatre'' is an American anthology series that aired live on NBC Mondays at 8 pm EST from September 27, 1948 to June 26, 1950. The program presented both news headlines and live dramatic performances of either original plays or works adapted for television from the stage. Sometimes the show was referred to as ''Chevrolet on Broadway'' or ''The Broadway Playhouse''; particularly when the program was presenting an adapted stage work from New York City's theatre scene. Vic McLeod produced the program. Episode status One episode from October 1949 is stored at the Library of Congress, along with three other episodes from that year, plus an episode from 1950. Kinescope , shortened to kine , also known as telerecording in Britain, is a recording of a television program on motion picture film, directly through a lens focused on the screen of a video monitor. The process was pioneered during the 1940s for the preservation, re-broadcasting and sale of television programmes before the introduction of quadruplex videotape, which from 1956 eventually superseded the use of kinescopes for all of these purposes. Kinescopes were the only practical way to preserve live television broadcasts prior to videotape. Typically, the term Kinescope can refer to the process itself, the equipment used for the procedure (a movie camera mounted in front of a video monitor, and synchronized to the monitor's scanning rate), or a film made using the process. The term originally referred to the cathode ray tube used in television receivers, as named by inventor Vladimir K. Zworykin in 1929.
