Shaky Kane
Michael Coulthard is a British writer and psychedelic artist who best known for his work as a comic and graphic artist under the pseudonym Shaky Kane, as well as Shaky 2000. Biography After working for independent comics and magazines like Pssst!, ''Escape'', and ''Deadline'' in the 1980s, Shaky moved to the mainstream with work on '' 2000 AD'' and its sister title, the ''Judge Dredd Megazine'' in the 1990s. With editor David Bishop, he created the ''Soul Sisters'', and he also contributed to the ''Judge Dredd'' strip, among others. Shaky's style is heavily influenced by Silver Age American comic books (especially the style of Jack Kirby), with a psychedelic twist. He also provided the art for '' The Bulletproof Coffin'' with writer David Hine for Image Comics, which is where he has published his recent projects. Thomas Kain
Thomas Gerald "Shaky" Kain (July 7, 1907 – June 24, 1971) was a professional baseball pitcher for 14 seasons in Minor League Baseball, a three-time championship-winning manager at that level for six seasons, a scout for Major League Baseball teams, and a college football referee. Early life Kain was born in 1907 in Nashville, Tennessee, and attended Hume-Fogg High School. He then attended the University of Georgia where he played college football, as a fullback and halfback, and college baseball. Sports career Kain was a pitcher in the minor leagues in 1927, 1929–1937, 1939, and 1941–1943, spending most of his career in the New York Yankees farm system. He had a win–loss record of 87–70 in 217 games pitched—although minor league baseball records for the era are incomplete—winning as many as 16 games in a season four times. Judge Dredd
Judge Joseph Dredd is a fictional character created by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra. He first appeared in the second issue of ''2000 AD (comics), 2000 AD'' (1977), which is a British weekly anthology Comic book, comic. He is the magazine's longest-running character. He also appears in a number of film and video game adaptations. Judge Dredd is a law enforcement and judicial officer in the dystopian future city of Mega-City One, which covers most of the east coast of North America. Peter Milligan
Peter Milligan (born 24 June 1961) is a British comic book writer who has written extensively for both British and American comic book industries. In the UK, Milligan has contributed to numerous anthology titles including '' 2000 AD'', ''Revolver'', ''Eagle'' and '' A1'', and helped launch the influential magazine ''Deadline''. A1 (comics)
''A1'' is a graphic novel anthology series published by British company Atomeka Press. It was created in 1989 by Garry Leach and Dave Elliott. In 2004 it was restarted, publishing new and old material. Publication history The first series (from the late 1980s) comprised six issues, plus the ''A1 Bikini Confidential''. Page-count varied around the 64-128 range. Most stories were one-off showcases, sometimes featuring characters that had publishing history elsewhere (e.g. Concrete, Mr. Monster, Mr. X, the American, Flaming Carrot). "Bricktop" was the one ongoing serialized story, though ''The Bojeffries Saga'' by Alan Moore and Steve Parkhouse appeared as self-contained stories in almost every issue. Brett Ewins
Brett Ewins (1955 – 16 February 2015) was a British comic book artist best known for his work on ''Judge Dredd'' and ''Rogue Trooper'' in the weekly anthology comic '' 2000 AD''. Biography Ewins studied Conceptual Art at Goldsmiths College, where he was also taught fine art by Michael Craig-Martin. Ewins met future collaborator Peter Milligan at Goldsmiths, and left in 1977. In 1980, Ewins held a solo exhibition of his work at Frestonia's ''Car Breaker Gallery'' in London, a squat in Ladbroke Grove's Republic of Frestonia. Ewins formed a long-term collaborative partnership with fellow artist Brendan McCarthy who also showed at the Car Breaker Gallery, creating the comic ''Sometime Stories'', which faltered after the first issue leaving the second issue completed but unpublished. ''Revolver'' is the title of a short-lived British comic book magazine published by Fleetway Publications in the early 1990s. Founded by Steve MacManus and edited by Peter Hogan, ''Revolver'' was a spin-off from '' 2000AD''. Bloober Team S.A. is a Polish video game developer based in Kraków. Founded in November 2008 by Peter Babieno and Peter Bielatowicz, the company is best known for developing ''Layers of Fear'' (2016), ''Observer'' (2017), ''Blair Witch'' (2019), and ''The Medium'' (2021). In January 2018, Bloober Team received the Paszport Polityki award in the "Digital Culture" category. History Bloober Team was founded by Peter Babieno and Peter Bielatowicz. The studio was originally part of Nibris, a developer set up in 2006, but sought to become independent through investor funding. ''Escape'' magazine was a British comic strip magazine founded and edited by Paul Gravett and Peter Stanbury. Nineteen issues were published between 1983 and 1989. Eddie Campbell, Phil Elliott and Glenn Dakin were amongst the many cartoonists published within its pages. Escape Publishing also released a limited number of graphic novels in the period 1984–1989, some co-published with Titan Books. Origins ''Escape'' has its origins in the explosion of small press or minicomics that occurred in the UK in the early 1980s. Paul Gravett was running a stall at the Westminster Comic Mart in London called Fast Fiction where he would sell other people's self-published comics for a small cut. Image Comics is an American comic book publisher and is the third largest comic book and graphic novel publisher in the industry in both unit and market share. It was founded in 1992 by several high-profile illustrators as a venue for creator-owned properties, in which comics creators could publish material of their own creation without giving up the copyrights to those properties. Normally this isn't the case in the work for hire-dominated American comics industry, where the legal author is a publisher, such as Marvel Comics or DC Comics, and the creator is an employee of that publisher. Comics Bulletin was a daily website covering the American comic-book industry. History Silver Bullet Comicbooks The site was founded in January 2000 as Silver Bullet Comicbooks by its New Zealand-based publisher/editor Jason Brice. During this period, the site made efforts to support retired comics professionals. In a Silver Bullet column called ''Past Masters'', contributor Clifford Meth wrote about his efforts to support ailing comic book artist Dave Cockrum. As a result of his advocacy, Marvel Comics announced it would compensate Cockrum for his work in co-creating the X-Men. In 2005, Silver Bullet partnered with Aardwolf Publishing to publish a benefit book in support of ailing comics writer/artist William Messner-Loebs. David Hine
David Hine (born 1956) is an English comic book writer and artist, known for his work on ''Silent War'' and ''The Bulletproof Coffin''. Career Hine has been working in comics since the early 1980s. For ''Crisis'', he drew the series ''Sticky Fingers'' (written by Myra Hancock) in 1989, and wrote and drew a number of short pieces in 1990 and 1991. For '' 2000 AD'' he drew ''Tao De Moto'' in 1991 (again written by Hancock) and wrote and drew the futuristic police series ''Mambo'' from 1994 to 1996. He wrote and drew the black and white horror comic '' Strange Embrace'', originally published as a mini-series by Atomeka Press in 1993, and later as a collected graphic novel by Active Images in the US, reprinted again as a colour series by Image Comics.
