Steve Reed (politician)
Steven Mark Ward Reed (born 12 November 1963) is a British politician who has been Shadow Secretary of State for Justice since November 2021. A member of the Labour and Co-operative party, he has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Croydon North since a 2012 by-election. Reed was Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government from 2020 to 2021. Prior to his election to Parliament, he was leader of Lambeth London Borough Council from 2006 to 2012. Early life and career Reed was born and raised in St Albans, Hertfordshire. His family worked at Odhams printing factory in Watford until it closed down in 1983. Around this time, he joined the Labour Party. He went on to study English at Sheffield University. He worked in the educational publishing industry from 1990 to 2008. Christopher Prout, Baron Kingsland
Christopher James Prout, Baron Kingsland (1 January 1942 – 12 July 2009) was a British barrister and Conservative Party politician. He is perhaps most well known for serving as the leader of the Conservative group of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and his role in initiating their association with the European People's Party. He later became a noted expert on constitutional issues. Life outside politics Prout was born in 1942, the son of Lucy and Frank Prout. He was educated at Sevenoaks School and Manchester University before gaining a postgraduate scholarship at Queen's College, Oxford where he studied economics. On 29 November 2021, Keir Starmer, Leader of the Opposition in the United Kingdom, carried out a reshuffle of his shadow cabinet. The slimmed down shadow cabinet, was seen to be Starmer creating a top team in his own image. The major outcome of the reshuffle was the reinstatement of Yvette Cooper to the frontbench. She returned as Shadow Home Secretary, a role she held in Ed Miliband's Shadow Cabinet. With the departure of Cat Smith, the Shadow Cabinet now contains zero members of the Socialist Campaign Group, a left-wing faction loyal to former leader Jeremy Corbyn. Richard Burgon (born 19 September 1980) is a British Labour Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Leeds East since 2015. Burgon served as Shadow Secretary of State for Justice and Shadow Lord Chancellor in the Shadow Cabinet of Jeremy Corbyn from 2016 to 2020. Burgon read English Literature at St John's College, Cambridge, where he was chairman of the Cambridge University Labour Club. On 26–29 June 2016, 21 members of the Shadow Cabinet resigned from the frontbench. Following the Leave result in the referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union, Jeremy Corbyn faced heavy criticism for the perceived reluctance of his involvement in the campaign to Remain and his perceived weakness as leader of the Labour Party. The first shadow minister to depart the Opposition frontbench was Hilary Benn, the Shadow Foreign Secretary, on 26 June. Charles Leslie Falconer, Baron Falconer of Thoroton, (born 19 November 1951) is a British Labour peer and barrister who served as Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice under Prime Minister Tony Blair from 2003 to 2007.
