Sha Tin Trophy
The Sha Tin Trophy is a horse race for horses aged four and over, run at a distance of 1,600 metres (one mile) on turf in October at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong. The Sha Tin Trophy was first contested in 1997. It was upgraded to International Group 2 class in 2016. Sha Tin Racecourse
Sha Tin Racecourse is one of the two racecourses for horse racing in Hong Kong. It is located in Sha Tin District, Sha Tin in the New Territories. It is managed by Hong Kong Jockey Club. Penfold Park is encircled by the track, and the Hong Kong Sports Institute is located immediately south of the property. Michael Jackson planned to perform at the racecourse on his Dangerous World Tour, which was the start of the third leg, but was cancelled due to the conflict of the racing season. History It was built in 1978 (under the administration of Sir David Akers-Jones, the then-Secretary for the New Territories) on reclaimed land and is the larger of the two tracks in Hong Kong. Weichong C. Marwing (born 14 March 1970 in South Africa) is a Thoroughbred horse racing jockey. Based in South Africa, he has won a number of important international Group One races. He is well remembered for riding Irridescence to victory over the great Ouija Board in the 2006 Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong. Matthew Chadwick (born 12 Jul 1990) is a horse racing jockey in Hong Kong. He was champion apprentice in 2008/09. He ranked fourth in the jockeys' premiership in 2009/10 although he became a fully fledged jockey in mid season. By the end of 2010/11, Chadwick had had 134 wins. California Memory () is an American-bred Hong Kong based Thoroughbred racehorse. He was one of the nominees of 2010-2011 Hong Kong Horse of the Year. Background California Memory is a grey gelding sired by Highest Honor out of the mare Kalpita. Racing career Acquired by Spanish buyers, California Memory began his racing career in both Spain and France named Portus Blendium and trained by Spanish trainer based in Chantilly, Carlos Laffon-Parias. Darren Beadman
Darren Beadman (born 17 November 1965) is an Australian champion jockey. In 2007 at age 41 he was the youngest jockey ever to be inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame, being the first to do so while still active in the industry. Early career Beadman first gained notice while winning the Sydney apprentice jockeys' title in his first season of 1982–83, managing to finish second in 1983-84 and winning again in 1984–85. Beadman piloted Inspired to the winning post in 1984 in taking Australia's premier two-year-old event, the Golden Slipper Stakes, for his first Group 1 win. He repeated that feat on Guineas in 1997. While still a teenager he rode in France for John Fellows winning the 1985 Prix Morny on Regal State. Shane Dye
Raymond Shane Dye (born 26 September 1966, in the township of Matamata New Zealand), is a former jockey. He was an apprentice jockey to Dave O’Sullivan at Matamata, before moving to Sydney, Australia initially working with Vic Thompson at Warwick Farm in the late-1980s. In a distinguished riding career, Dye won the Melbourne Cup on Tawriffic in 1989 in then-record time, and won four consecutive Golden Slippers from 1989 to 1992. He also won the Cox Plate on Octagonal in 1995. Dye rode in Mauritius after eight years in Hong Kong. Dye has not ridden in competitive racing since 2013 and has said he will not return to racing.
