Seánie McMahon
Seánie McMahon (born 1973) is a former Irish hurler. He played with his local club St Joseph's Doora-Barefield and with the Clare senior inter-county team from 1994 until 2006. He is the highest scoring back in All-Ireland Championship history with 0-97 from 51 games. Playing career Club McMahon retired from playing with his club Doora-Barefield in 2009. He has had some success at underage levels before finally winning a senior county championship title in 1998. This was later converted into a Munster club title and on St. Patrick's Day, 1999 McMahon claimed an All-Ireland club title following a huge win over Rathnure. Later that year he won a second county title as well as a second Munster club title. McMahon won a third Clare SHC medal in 2001. St Joseph's Doora-Barefield GAA
St Joseph's, Doora-Barefield is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in the parish of Doora Barefield, Doora-Barefield outside Ennis, County Clare, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Hurling was the more popular sport in Barefield over Gaelic football, now it's 50-50 between the both of them. Their main playing fields are in Gurteen. They have three full-size hurling and football pitches. There is also changing and showering facilities there. History Players from the club twice joined up with local rivals Éire Óg, Inis GAA, Éire Óg, Ennis to form the Ennis Faughs football team. Both clubs were competing at lower levels at the time so it was seen as an opportunity to play senior football. The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship of 1997 (known for sponsorship reasons as the Guinness Hurling Championship 1997) was the 111th staging of Ireland's premier hurling competition. Clare won the championship, beating Tipperary 0-20 to 2-13 in the final at Croke Park, Dublin. Pre-championship The 'back-door' system Since its inception in 1887 the championship had been played on a straight knock-out basis. If any team was defeated at any stage of the provincial or All-Ireland competitions it meant automatic elimination. Frank Lohan
Frank Lohan (born 1974 in Shannon, County Clare) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his adopted club Oranmore/Maree, on the outskirts of Galway city, and was a member of the Clare senior inter-county team from 1995 until 2008. Playing career Frank Lohan won his first Munster Senior Hurling Championship in 1995, as Clare defeated Limerick 1-17 to 0-11 in the final. The team then went on to win the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, a victory that made Lohan and his teammates heroes in County Clare - it was the county team's first All-Ireland senior win since 1914. Brian Lohan
Brian Lohan (born 14 November 1971) is an Irish hurling manager and former player who is the manager of the Clare senior hurling team. As a player, he is widely considered to be one of the greatest full-backs of all time. Born and raised in Shannon, County Clare, Lohan began his hurling career at club level with Wolfe Tones. After much success at underage levels, he eventually broke on the club's senior team and enjoyed his greatest success in 1996 when he captained the team to the Munster Club Championship. Lohan also won two Clare Club Championships during his career. Lohan lined out for Clare in two different grades of hurling over a 14-year period. Brian Whelahan
Brian Whelahan (born 23 August 1971) is an Irish former hurler who played as a left wing-back at senior level for the Offaly county team. Born in Banagher, County Offaly, Whelahan first played competitive hurling whilst at school in St Brendan's Community School. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of fifteen when he first linked up with the Offaly minor team, before later lining out with the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 1989 championship. Whelahan went on to play a key role for Offaly during a hugely successful era for the team, and won two All-Ireland medals, four Leinster medals and one National Hurling League medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team for on a number of occasions, Whelahan won two Interprovincial Cup medals. Larry O'Gorman (born October 1967 in Wexford, Ireland) is a retired Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Faythe Harriers and with the Wexford senior inter-county team in from the 1987 until 2004.
