Seán Thomas
Seán Thomas (died 24 June 1999) was an Irish football manager. Club management After a short playing career with Home Farm and C.Y.M.S., a left back who had to give up playing because of an injury, he attended Loughborough University for periods from 1956–1959 to learn all the aspects of successful coaching. Thomas had short spells as coach at Sligo Rovers and Home Farm before moving to Shamrock Rovers in 1961 for Rovers' tour in the International Soccer League (1960-1965). In his 3 years at Glenmalure Park, he picked up one League of Ireland title, 2 FAI Cups and 2 League of Ireland Shields. After the 2–2 draw with Valencia CF at the Estadio Mestalla in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup on 10 October 1963, Thomas commented "to say I am proud of the team is an understatement, I have never felt so proud of Shamrock Rovers as I have tonight. The Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, sometimes referred to as the European Fairs Cup, Fairs Cities' Cup, or simply as the Fairs Cup, was a European Association football, football competition played between 1955 and 1971. Sligo Rovers Football Club ( ga, Cumann Peile Ruagairí Shligigh) is an Irish professional football club playing in the Premier Division of the League of Ireland. Johnny Fullam
John Rowan "Johnny" Fullam (22 March 1940 – 10 June 2015) was an Irish association footballer. Career Born in Dublin, Fullam began his career at Home Farm before signing for Preston North End in 1958. He scored 6 goals in 49 league appearances for Preston. In 1961 he was asked to guest on Shamrock Rovers tour of America on the understanding that he would sign for the club. He scored his first goal in a competitive match from the penalty spot against Transport in a League of Ireland Shield game on 20 August 1961. He suffered a serious knee injury in February 1962 and missed Rovers FAI Cup win that season. He made his European debut in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup against PFC Botev Plovdiv and won his first Shield medal in 1962/63. Dinny Lowry (born 1935) is an Irish former soccer player. Lowry played for St Patrick's Athletic F.C., Bohemians and Sligo Rovers in the League of Ireland. He played one match for Republic of Ireland. Playing career Club career Lowry played youth football for Bulfin United before joining St Patrick's Athletic. Tony O'Connell
Anthony O'Connell (born 12 February 1941) is an Irish former professional footballer who played as a forward during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Career Shamrock Rovers O'Connell first came to prominence as a winger in 1959 with Shamrock Rovers when his balance and ball skills made the league sit up and take notice. He made his first team debut in a Dublin City Cup tie on 9 September 1959. He played against the likes of Valencia CF in Europe during his first spell at Rovers and won the FAI Cup in 1962. There was interest from England in Tony but he snubbed them to move to America where he was nominated for an "All Star" during his spell at New York. He also played for Toronto City alongside Tony Book and Malcolm Allison in the summer of 1964. James Patrick Conway (10 August 1946 – 14 February 2020) was an Irish international association footballer who played professionally in Ireland, England and the United States. He earned 20 caps for the Republic of Ireland national football team, playing mainly as a midfielder, and coached extensively at the professional and collegiate levels in the United States. Turlough O'Connor (born 22 July 1946 in Athlone) was an Irish association footballer during the 1960s and 1970s. He is a member of the Bohemians Hall of Fame. His two brothers Padraig O'Connor and Michael O'Connor also played for Athlone Town. Presidents Cup
The Presidents Cup is a series of men's golf matches between a team representing the United States and an International Team representing the rest of the world minus Europe. Europe competes against the United States in a similar but considerably older event, the Ryder Cup. The Presidents Cup has been held biennially since 1994. Initially it was held in even-numbered years, with the Ryder Cup being held in odd numbered years. However, the cancellation of the 2001 Ryder Cup due to the September 11 attacks pushed both tournaments back a year, and the Presidents Cup was then held in odd-numbered years. It reverted to even-number years following the postponement of the 2020 Ryder Cup due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
