Seán McCarthy (Tipperary Politician)
Seán McCarthy (1 January 1937 – 12 July 2021) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician. A Physician, medical doctor before entering politics, he was elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála (TD) for the Tipperary South (Dáil constituency), Tipperary South constituency at the 1981 Irish general election, 1981 general election. He was re-elected at each subsequent election until he lost his seat at the 1989 Irish general election, 1989 general election. He was elected to Seanad Éireann for the Agricultural Panel in the following Seanad election. He unsuccessfully contested both the 1992 Irish general election, 1992 general election and the subsequent Seanad election. He served as Minister of State (Ireland), Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Department of Industry and Commerce from 1987 to 1989 with responsibility for Science and Technology. Seanad Éireann
Seanad Éireann (, ; "Senate of Ireland") is the upper house of the Oireachtas (the Irish legislature), which also comprises the President of Ireland and Dáil Éireann (the lower house). It is commonly called the Seanad or Senate and its members senators (''seanadóirí'' in Irish, singular: ''seanadóir''). Unlike Dáil Éireann, it is not directly elected but consists of a mixture of members chosen by various methods. Its powers are much weaker than those of the Dáil and it can only delay laws with which it disagrees, rather than veto them outright. It can introduce new legislation. South Tipperary County Council
South Tipperary County Council ( ga, Comhairle Contae Thiobraid Árann Theas) was the authority responsible for local government in the county of South Tipperary, Ireland. The council had 26 elected members. The head of the council had the title of Cathaoirleach (Chairperson). The county town was Clonmel. Originally South Tipperary County Council held its meetings in Clonmel Courthouse. The county council moved to new facilities in Emmet Street, latterly known as the County Hall, in 1927.
