Seán Dunne (politician)
Seán Dunne (18 December 1918 – 25 June 1969) was a trade union leader and Irish Labour Party politician. He was a Teachta Dála (TD) from 1948 to 1957 and from 1961 to 1969. Early life Dunne was born in Waterford, to Michael Dunne, an RIC constable, and Bridget Coppinger, a schoolteacher. On 10 May 1920, in an ambush at nearby Ahawadda, his father and two other constables were killed by Irish Volunteers in an ambush. Dunne subsequently grew up in his mother's native area of Waterford. At 16 he became involved in the Labour and Republican movements. He joined the Workers' Union of Ireland (WUI) in 1936 and led "hunger marches" in 1937. As a republican he was interned in the Curragh and Arbour Hill Prison for the first two years of the Second World War, rejoining the WUI on his release. Seán Dunne (1956–1995) was a poet born in Waterford, Ireland. Career Dunne edited several anthologies, beginning with ''The Poets of Munster'' (1985) and finishing with the ''Ireland Anthology'' which was completed posthumously by George O'Brien and Dunne's partner Trish Edelstein. He released 3 collections of poems. Dunne's collections of poems were all well received, and in order of release are: ''Against the Storm'' (1985), ''The Sheltered Nest'' (1992) and ''Time and the Island''. The account of his childhood ''In My Father's House,'' published in 1991, was a bestseller. Life Dunne's father was Richard Dunne. Seán Dunne (born 1954) is an Irish businessman and property developer. He is sometimes referred to as "Baron of Ballsbridge" because of his ambitious development project for the Jury's/Berkeley Court hotels site in Ballsbridge. He left Dublin for the United States after the property collapse of 2007 to 2011. He was born in County Carlow, Ireland. In an interview with the '' International Herald Tribune'' in January 2009, Seán Dunne commented "if the banking crisis continues I could be considered insolvent." Early career In 1990, Dunne was involved with the development of lands at St Helens in Booterstown, Dublin through Berland Homes company, of which he was managing director.
