Seyhan Cultural Center
Seyhan Cultural Center ( tr, Seyhan Kültür Merkezi), is a complex in Adana that is composed of two theatre halls, a conference hall and three exhibition halls. The center is located next to the Seyhan Municipality Hall, on D400 State Road. On March 1, 2015, the cultural center is renamed 'Yaşar Kemal Kültür Merkezi' after the death of the legendary author Yaşar Kemal Yaşar Kemal (born Kemal Sadık Gökçeli; 6 October 1923 – 28 February 2015) was a Turkish writer and human rights activist and one of Turkey's leading writers. The Center 700-seater theatre hall, 300-seater theatre hall of the Center hosts the Seyhan Town Theatre and community theater groups. Seyhan
Seyhan is a district-municipality in the Adana Province of Turkey, core of the Adana urban area. Seyhan is home to 35 percent of the residents of Adana Province and almost half of the residents of the city of Adana. It is the fifth most populous metropolitan district in Turkey. Seyhan is the first settlement area of Adana and currently the administrative, business and cultural center of the city. It includes the historical neighborhood of Tepebağ, and the landmarks such as Büyüksaat, Ulu Camii, Ramazanoğlu Hall and Sabancı Merkez Camii. Yaşar Kemal
Yaşar Kemal (born Kemal Sadık Gökçeli; 6 October 1923 – 28 February 2015) was a Turkish writer and human rights activist and one of Turkey's leading writers. He received 38 awards during his lifetime and had been a candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature on the strength of ''Memed, My Hawk''. An outspoken intellectual, he often did not hesitate to speak about sensitive issues, especially those concerning the oppression of the Kurdish people. He was tried in 1995 under anti-terror laws for an article he wrote for ''Der Spiegel'' highlighting the Turkish Army's destruction of Kurdish villages during the Turkish-Kurdish conflict. He was released but later received a suspended 20-month jail sentence for another article he wrote criticising racism in Turkey, especially against the Kurds.
