Seyfi Arkan
Abdurrahman Seyfettin Arkan, Seyfi Nasih (1903 – 15 July 1966) was a Turkish architect, the personal architect of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. He was born in 1903 in Istanbul. He attended Kadikoy French School and Galatasaray High School. He was first in his class under Vedat Tek in 1928, and later worked with Hans Poelzig in Germany. In 1933 he designed the Glass Villa of Çankaya Köşkü, the President of Turkey's official residence, as well as Florya Atatürk Marine Mansion, a Bauhaus-style former residence of Atatürk and now a museum, in 1935. Early life and career Arkan was born in 1903 in Istanbul, Turkey. Following the completion of primary education in Kadikoy French School, received secondary education at Galatasaray High School. Seyfi Dursunoğlu
Seyfi Dursunoğlu (born Seyfettin Dursun; 1 October 1932 – 17 July 2020), also known by his stage name Huysuz Virjin (''Grumpy Virgin''), was a Turkish performing drag artist, comedian, singer and TV presenter. From the 1970s until the 2000s, he was a well-known entertainment figure with his programs in Turkey's television. Life and career Dursunoğlu was born in 1932 in Trabzon. After finishing his education at Haydarpaşa High School, he studied philology but left the university to work as a civil servant at the Social Insurance Institution (SSK). After working for 18 years as a public officer in the SSK, he left his job and started to perform under the name Huysuz Virjin as a drag artist in 1970. Ali Rıza Seyfi
Ali Rıza Seyfi (1879–1958) was a Turkish novelist, historian and poet. He was born in Istanbul. His real surname was Seyfioğlu but he often wrote under the pen name of Ali Rıza. He was the brother of Süleyman Nutki, a naval history writer. He attended the Kasımpaşa Naval Elementary School and served at various posts in Basra, with the fleet in the Dardanelles, at the Naval Science Commission and at Tripoli as a naval officer after 1892. He started to work at the General Staff, Naval Department Translation Office with his teacher and the famous Turkist Miralay Saffet Bey in 1906. He started to work on his naval history research in 1909 when he retired with the rank of lieutenant. After the invasion of İstanbul, he moved to Ankara with his family and worked as an English translator at the Press Department. The action off Măcin was a naval engagement between a torpedo boat of the Romanian Navy with a mixed Romanian-Russian crew, together with another 3 Russian torpedo boats, and a monitor of the Ottoman Navy which took place during the 1877-1878 Russo-Turkish War. It was the first time in history that a torpedo craft sank its target without being sunk itself. Background The Principality of Romania acquired its first torpedo boat in 1875, two years before the start of the Russo-Turkish War. She was built in the United Kingdom. Named '' Rândunica'', she was a 10-ton launch armed with a single spar torpedo. She was powered by a steam engine giving her a top speed of 8 knots and had a crew of five. River monitors are military craft designed to patrol rivers. They are normally the largest of all riverine warships in river flotillas, and mount the heaviest weapons. The name originated from the US Navy's , which made her first appearance in the American Civil War, and being distinguished by the use of revolving gun turrets, which were particularly useful in rivers, whose narrow channels could severely limit the directions vessels could face. River monitors were used on inland waterways such as rivers, estuaries, deltas and lakes. Usually they had a shallow draft which was necessary for them to be able to operate in enclosed waters; but their displacement, size and draft varied depending on where they were used.
