Sexual Harassment In The Military
Sexual harassment in the military is unwanted sexual behaviour experienced as threatening, offensive, or otherwise upsetting, which occurs in a military setting. Sexual harassment is more common in military than civilian life. Military women experience unwanted behaviours disproportionately, particularly younger women and girls. Other groups at high risk include partners of personnel, child cadets, and military detainees. Risk factors characteristic of a military setting include the young average age of personnel, isolated workplaces, the minority status of women, hierarchical power relationships, a culture of conformity, the predominance of traditionally masculine values and behaviours, and a heavy drinking culture. Leeuwin Barracks
HMAS ''Leeuwin'' is a former Royal Australian Navy (RAN) naval base, shore establishment, located in , Western Australia. In use between 1940 and 1984, the base reopened in 1986 under the control of the Australian Army as Leeuwin Barracks. Intimate partner violence (IPV) is domestic violence by a current or former spouse or partner in an intimate relationship against the other spouse or partner. IPV can take a number of forms, including physical, verbal, emotional, economic and sexual abuse. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines IPV as "any behavior within an intimate relationship that causes physical, psychological or sexual harm to those in the relationship, including acts of physical aggression, sexual coercion, psychological abuse and controlling behaviors." Paula Puopolo
Paula Coughlin is a former lieutenant and naval aviator in the United States Navy. She is a whistleblower who played a role in opening investigations into what was known as the Tailhook scandal. Early life Coughlin attended Old Dominion University, where she joined the Reserve Officer Training Corps. She joined the Navy in 1984 and became a helicopter pilot. The Tailhook Association is a U.S.-based non-profit fraternal organization supporting the interests of sea-based aviation, with emphasis on aircraft carriers. The word tailhook refers to the hook underneath the tail of the aircraft that catches the arresting wire suspended across the flight deck in order to stop the landing plane quickly.
