Alfred Settle (17 September 1912 – January 1988) was a professional footballer who played for Sheffield United and Lincoln City as a left-half between 1936 and 1946. Tim Settle (born July 11, 1997) is an American football defensive tackle for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Virginia Tech and was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Early years Settle attended Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas, Virginia. He played high school football for the Raiders. As a senior, he tallied 72 tackles, three sacks, two fumble recoveries and 10 pass deflections. Thomas Settle (March 10, 1865 – January 20, 1919) was an American lawyer who served for two terms as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from North Carolina from 1893 to 1897. Settle was the son of Thomas Settle, a judge and politician in North Carolina, and a grandson of Thomas Settle (1789–1857), also a U.S. Representative from North Carolina. Biography Thomas Settle was born near Wentworth, Rockingham County, N.C., on March 10, 1865. He attended the public schools and Georgetown University, studied law in Greensboro, N.C.; was admitted to the bar in 1885 and commenced practice in Wentworth. Thomas Settle (January 23, 1831 – December 1, 1888) was a United States Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Peru, an associate justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina and a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida. Education and career Born on January 23, 1831, in Rockingham County, North Carolina, Settle received an Artium Baccalaureus degree in 1850 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and read law at Richmond Hill Law School in 1854. Thomas Settle (March 9, 1789 – August 5, 1857) was a Congressional Representative from North Carolina from 1817 to 1821. Settle was born near Reidsville, North Carolina, March 9, 1789; educated by private tutors; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1812 and commenced practice in Wentworth, North Carolina. He was elected to the State House of Commons in 1816; elected as a Republican to the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Congresses (March 4, 1817 – March 3, 1821); declined to be a candidate for reelection in 1820. Settle resumed the practice of law, was again a member of the State House of Commons, from c. 1826–1829, and served as speaker in the last session. Martha Settle Putney (November 9, 1916 – December 11, 2008) was an American educator and historian who chronicled the roles of African Americans in the armed forces. After serving as one of the first black members of the Women's Army Corps during World War II, she devoted her life to researching and documenting the military service and achievements of black Americans.
