Setanta Hurling Club (Donegal)
Setanta Hurling Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located near Killygordon, County Donegal, Ireland. The club is solely concerned with the game of hurling. It currently competes in the Donegal SHC. History Setanta won its first Donegal SHC title in 1973. Since then, it has won a total of 17 club titles, including a six-in-a-row between 1983 and 1988. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. The Ulster Junior Club Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition played between the best junior hurling clubs in the province of Ulster in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association and are played during the winter months. The ''Donegal Democrat'' is a twice-weekly local newspaper, covering County Donegal, Ireland. The paper was traditionally based in the town of Ballyshannon in the south of the county, but now has offices in Donegal Town (southern edition) and Letterkenny (northern edition). The 1992 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final was the deciding match of the 1992 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, an inter-county Gaelic football tournament for the top teams in Ireland. The 105th All-Ireland SFC final, the event was held at Croke Park on 20 September 1992, contested by Dublin and Donegal. Donegal won the match by 0–18 to 0–14, with man of the match Manus Boyle scoring nine points (including one off the crossbar) and James McHugh beating Dublin goalkeeper John O'Leary early in the game, only for his strike on goal to also hit the crossbar in front of Hill 16. Dublin's Charlie Redmond also missed a penalty in an eventful game. Dublin entered the game as heavy favourites to take the Sam Maguire Cup over the River Liffey. Donal Reid
Donal Reid ( ; born 1961 or 1962) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for Bundoran, Red Hughs and the Donegal county team. He played more than 100 times competitively for Donegal, appearing at all age levels and positions from midfield to forward to defence. Reid won two All-Ireland titles with his county, and was part of Jim McGuinness's backroom team when they won another in 2012. He also played hurling with the Setanta club. Playing career Reid played first with Bundoran and later with the Red Hughs club. He played alongside future Donegal manager Brian McEniff in the team's defence. The Shinty–Hurling International Series is a sports competition played annually between the Ireland national hurling team (selected by the Gaelic Athletic Association) and Scotland national shinty team (selected by the Camanachd Association). Ireland National Hurling Team
The Ireland national hurling team, consisting solely of hurlers, is a representative team for Ireland (both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland) in the sport of composite rules shinty–hurling. The team is usually made up of a mixture of high-profile hurlers who compete in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship as well as lesser-known players who play for smaller counties which traditionally compete in the Christy Ring and Nicky Rackard Cups. Danny Cullen
Danny Cullen (born 1987/8) is a hurler. He plays for Setanta, the Donegal county team and the Ireland national team. He has won three Nicky Rackard Cups and represented Ireland against Scotland in the Shinty-Hurling International Series. Playing career Club and college Cullen's grandfather, Danny Snr, was a founder of Setanta in 1979. He (the grandson) won a Donegal Senior Hurling Championship in 2017. Setanta followed this with an Ulster Junior Club Hurling Championship, also in 2017. He won another Donegal SHC in 2019, scoring 0–1 in the final. Cullen has coached under-age teams for his club. Highland Radio is the local radio service for the County Donegal (North) franchise, operating under a licence from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI).
