''Loose Shoes and Tight Pussy'' is the last studio album by American pop-rock musician Alex Chilton, released in Europe in 1999. It was released in the United States in 2000 under the title ''Set''. It was subsequently released on a double CD with one of Chilton's previous albums, ''Clichés (album), Clichés''. The album is made up of cover versions of older songs, some of which have been recorded by several other artists. Title The title of the album comes from a racist joke that was made infamous in 1976 by politician Earl Butz, who served as Secretary of Agriculture under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. The quote of Butz using the racist joke in reference to African Americans, reported in ''Rolling Stone (magazine), Rolling Stone'' in an article by White House counsel John Dean, caused a controversy which ultimately led to Butz's resignation from the Ford Administration. William Alexander Chilton (December 28, 1950 – March 17, 2010) was an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer best known as the lead singer of the Box Tops and Big Star. Chilton's early commercial success in the 1960s as a teen vocalist for the Box Tops was never repeated in later years with Big Star and in his subsequent indie music solo career on small labels, but he drew an intense following among indie and alternative rock musicians. He is frequently cited as a seminal influence by influential rock artists and bands, some of whose testimonials appeared in the 2012 documentary '' Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me''. Early life and career Chilton grew up in a musical family; his father, Sidney Chilton, was a jazz musician.
