Sestola ( Sestolese: ; Frignanese: ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) situated in the Province of Modena in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about southwest of Bologna and about southwest of Modena. It is located near the Monte Cimone and other mountains of the northern Apennines separating Emilia and Tuscany. San Nicola Di Bari, Sestola
San Nicola di Bari is Roman Catholic parish church located in the town of Sestola in the region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. History The earlier Romanesque-style church was rebuilt and re-oriented. The church was reconsecrated in 1629, by the vicar general of the Abbey of Nonantola. It had been decorated under the patronage of Ludovico and Bartolomeo Cavalcabò, local aristocrats of the 16th-17th centuries. The interior has a central nave with two aisles. Between 1897 and 1902 it was refurbished and frescoed by Albano Lugli, including frescoes of a ''St Nicolò da Bari'' in the apse. The facade was completed in 1909. The first chapel on the right has a canvas depicting the Madonna and Child with Saints'', a copy of a work by Camillo Boccaccino. The second has a 16th-century canvas depicting the ''Glory of St Joseph''. History A church at the site was erected in 1405, with the remains, and atop the foundations of a former castle. The church once had a series of 15th-century frescoes depicting the ''Life of St John the Baptist''; these were removed in 1857, and are now displayed in the Museo del Duomo of Modena. The simple, undecorated, stone church with a portico and its two story bell-tower is now closed, and the roof is in danger of collapse. For some time, the parish functions were transferred to the Oratory of San Biagio.

Giardino Botanico Alpino "Esperia"
Esperia alpine botanical garden is a 3-hectare alpine botanical garden located at an elevation of 1500 meters at the Passo del Lupo, some 4 km from Sestola, Province of Modena, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. It is operated by the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI), Modena section. The garden was first organized in 1952 as the Centro Erboristico Appenninico Sperimentale for the study of medicinal plants, grass, etc., and set within a natural beech forest at the foot of Monte Cimone. In 1980 it became today's botanical garden, and opened to the public. Its name, "Esperia", refers to the Garden of the Gods in Greek mythology. Today the garden contains about 200 species of local and exotic plants, arranged in 32 flowerbeds, with a trail for the blind in Braille, and a section of medicinal plants. Riolunato
Riolunato ( Riolunatese: ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Modena in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about southwest of Bologna and about southwest of Modena. It is overlooked from the south by the Monte Cimone. Its fraction ''Le Polle'', about high, is one of the most important stations in the ''Monte Cimone Ski resort''. Monte Cimone
Monte Cimone is the highest mountain in the northern Apennines, of Italy. Geography The mountain has an elevation of 2,165 m and is also the highest point in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. It encompasses the ''comuni'' of Fiumalbo, Sestola, Fanano and Riolunato in the province of Modena. Its interior houses a military structure; for this reason, during the Cold War, access to the peak was forbidden. During World War II it was a German radar site and anti-aircraft gun battery. Later it was used as a communications relay site by the U.S. Air Force, until removed in 2008. Skiing It is a frequented winter ski resort. In the resort there are 31 ski trails for a total length of more than 50 km (the longest trail is 3,6 km) served by 26 lifts.
