Session Man (film)
''Session Man'' is a 1991 American short drama film directed by Seth Winston and starring James Remar. In 1992, it won an Oscar at the 64th Academy Awards for Best Short Subject. Plot An aging, but capable and talented session guitarist named McQueen (James Remar) is awakened by a late-night call from a nearby recording studio. He is needed to help smooth out some tracks that are being worked on by an established and popular hard rock band, the Raging Kings. The band’s own lead guitarist, Dean Storm (Jeff Kober) is resentful of McQueen’s involvement, and after an argument with the other members he decides to leave the group altogether. Impressed by McQueen’s skills, the band asks him on the spot to replace Storm and he graciously accepts, fulfilling his lifelong dream. After a brief jam session, Storm suddenly returns to the studio and asks to speak privately with the original band. Seth Winston
Seth Lance Winston (August 15, 1950 – June 5, 2015) was an American filmmaker best known for his short film '' Session Man''. Born in Philadelphia and raised in Los Angeles, Winston received a Bachelor of Arts in cinema production from the USC School of Cinematic Arts. He was selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for their director's internship program, giving him the opportunity to work on Steven Spielberg's science fiction film ''Close Encounters of the Third Kind''. He went on to write for several TV and cinematic movies, including ''She's Out of Control'', starring Tony Danza. Winston won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short along with Rob Fried in 1992 for ''Session Man''. He taught at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, UC Santa Barbara and Columbia College Hollywood. Winston died at his home in Woodland Hills from an apparent heart attack on June 5, 2015, aged 64. Tito Larriva
Humberto "Tito" Larriva (born 1953) is a Mexican/American songwriter, singer, musician, and actor. He came to prominence leading The Plugz, one of the earliest Los Angeles punk rock groups. Since the 1990s, his main musical outlet has been the Tito & Tarantula. Early life Larriva was born in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, and grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska, and El Paso, Texas. As a child he played the violin in the school orchestra and sang in the church and school choirs where he met his wife Janet Carroll. In 1972 Larriva snuck into Yale University for a full term without being noticed. After being kicked out of the Ivy League university, he moved to Mexico City and in 1975 moved to Los Angeles, California. He now lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife and daughter and continues to work in the music and film industries.
