Services Cricket Team
The Services cricket team plays in the Ranji Trophy, the main domestic first-class cricket competition in India. Under the auspices of the Services Sports Control Board, they represent the Indian Armed Forces. Their home ground is the Palam A Ground, Model Sports Complex, Delhi. Records The Services team first played in the Ranji Trophy in 1949–50. They played in the North Zone of the competition until 2001–02, and have played in the Plate Group and other lower-ranked groups since 2002–03, except for one season, where they played in the Elite Group, during 2005–06. Their strongest period was the 1950s: between 1950–51 and 1959–60 they reached the semi-finals six times and the final twice, losing to Bombay in 1956–57 by an innings, and to Baroda in 1957–58, also by an innings. Ranji Trophy
The Ranji Trophy (also known as Mastercard Ranji Trophy for sponsorship reasons) is a domestic first-class cricket championship played in India between multiple teams representing regional and state cricket associations. Board of Control for Cricket in India founded Ranji trophy in 1935, since then it is annually organised across various grounds and stadiums in India. The competition currently consists of 38 teams, with all 28 states in India and four of the eight union territories having at least one representation. The competition is named after Ranjitsinhji who is the first Indian cricketer who played international cricket, he was also known as 'Ranji'. 2019–20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
2019–20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was the twelfth edition of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a Twenty20 competition in India. It took place between 8 November and 1 December 2019. Karnataka were the defending champions. The tournament retained the same format as the previous edition of the competition. The tournament had five groups, with two groups containing seven teams and three groups with eight teams. The top two teams in each group qualified for the Super League section of the tournament, with the teams then split into two further groups of five teams. The top two teams of each of the Super League groups progressed to the semi-finals. On the opening day of the tournament, Karnataka beat Uttarakhand by nine wickets, setting a new record for the most consecutive wins in T20 matches in India, with fifteen. Off-break
Off spin is a type of finger spin bowling in cricket. A bowler who uses this technique is called an off spinner. Off spinners are right-handed spin bowlers who use their fingers to spin the ball. Sonipat is a city, municipal corporation and administrative headquarter in Sonipat district of Haryana state of India. It comes under the National Capital Region and is around from New Delhi. Apoorva Sengupta
Lieutenant General Apoorva Kumar Sengupta (3 August 1938 – 14 September 2013) was an Indian army officer and cricketer who played in one Test in 1959. Cricket career Sengupta's Test appearance came in the middle of a major controversy in Indian cricket. Ghulam Ahmed announced his retirement a few days before the Madras Test against the West Indies in 1958-59, and Vijay Manjrekar dropped out due to an injury. This led to a confusing situation where Jasu Patel, A. G. Kripal Singh, Manohar Hardikar and Sengupta were all considered. The captain Polly Umrigar wanted Hardikar but when the President of the BCCI insisted that he pick Patel, Umrigar resigned the night before the match. In the end, Sengupta and Kripal Singh played. Surendranath (cricketer)
Surendra Nath (4 January 1937 – 5 May 2012) was an Indian cricketer who played in eleven Test matches between 1958 and 1961. He was primarily a medium-pace swing bowler, who enjoyed a particularly successful tour of England in 1959. An army officer, he played his domestic cricket for Services in a career that extended from 1955–56 to 1968–69. He came to national prominence in 1958–59 when, playing for Services, he dismissed the first three West Indian batsmen in a tour match. He followed that up with 6 for 10 against Patiala, and was selected for the Third Test. He took 2 for 168 in the only West Indies innings, the only Indian bowler to take more than one wicket. He then took 7 for 14 and 6 for 62 against Railways, and retained his position for the Fourth Test. Narain Swamy
Venkatraman Narayan Swamy (23 May 1924 in near Kozhikode, Kerala – 1 May 1983 in Dehra Dun, India) was an Indian Test cricketer. Swamy made his Test debut against New Zealand in 1955/56 and played in the first match of the series. He opened the bowling with Dattu Phadkar, took no wickets, did not bat, and was dropped. Chandrasekhar Gadkari
Lt. Col. Chandrasekhar Vaman Gadkari (3 February 1928 – 11 January 1998) was an Indian Test cricketer. Gadkari was an attacking batsman, medium pace bowler and a great fielder. He made a fine impression as a fielder in the 1952/53 tour to West Indies in an Indian side that was noted for its fielding. He made 50* in the Georgetown Test which remained his highest score. Bal Dani
Hemachandra Tukaram "Bal" Dani (24 May 1933, Dudhani, Maharashtra – 19 December 1999, Nashik, Maharashtra) was an Indian Test cricketer. Bal Dani was predominantly a right-handed batsman. He could also bowl medium pace and later turned to off and leg breaks. His only Test match was against Pakistan in 1952/53. India won the game losing only four wickets, and Dani did not get a chance to bat and took a single wicket off his 10 overs. Only 19 at the time, his opening partner was the 41-year-old Lala Amarnath. He toured Pakistan in 1954/55 without appearing in a Test match. He did his schooling at Rungta High School, Nashik. Contemporary cricketer Bapu Nadkarni also attended the same school. He held a B.A. (Hons) degree.
