He was part of the first Latem school of painting which focused on Mystical Realism, but became a founder of Belgian expressionism later in life. He became known for his religious works, typically showing the suffering of Jesus Christ, which stirred controversy in the Catholic Church. He also gained fame for his expressionist landscapes. Life and career Albert Servaes was born in the city of Ghent, in the Flanders region of Belgium. He painted from a young age, and was mostly self-taught. At the age of 23, Servaes joined a community of artists outside of Ghent, in Sint-Martens-Latem. He became religiously interested while living in the community, and he befriended members of the church. At this time, he developed an interest in religious works and mysticism, which would play a major part in the first Latem School he would join. 	Dagny Servaes Dagny Servaes (10 March 1894 – 10 July 1961) was a German-Austrian stage and film actress. In the theatre she appeared in the productions of Max ReinhardtStyan p.89 and Berthold Brecht. Servaes appeared in around sixty films during her career, initially in lead and later in supporting roles. One of her earliest screen performances was in the 1917 propaganda film ''Dr. Hart's Diary''. She also voiced the character of the evil queen in a German language dub of Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs made for the Austrian market in 1938. 	Reginald Servaes Vice Admiral Reginald Maxwell Servaes (25 July 1893 – 18 November 1978) was Flag Officer commanding the Reserve Fleet. Early life Servaes was son of Julius Max(imus) Servaes (1863-1947) and Constance Violet, daughter of Joseph Coltart, a Liverpool shipowner. Julius Servaes, like his father, also Julius (died 1902), was a cotton merchant; the senior Julius had been a partner in the firm of J. H. Schroder & Co., involved in the Liverpool cotton trade, before establishing his own general agency and commission business and becoming prominent in the local community. Life and career Servaes joined the Royal Navy in 1906 and saw service in World War I. He became commanding officer of the repair ship in 1937 and Director of Local Defence at the Admiralty in 1938.
