Serres Railway Station
Serres railway station ( el, Σιδηροδρομικός Σταθμός Σέρρες, Sidirodromikós stathmós Sèrres) is a railway station that serves the community of Serres, in Serres in East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece. The station is located (25 Min walk) south of the settlement but still within the settlement limits. The neoclassical station building (as of 2021) is unstaffed. History The station opened in 1900. Serres was annexed by Greece on 18 October 1912 during the First Balkan War. On 17 October 1925, The Greek government purchased the Greek sections of the former Salonica Monastir railway and the railway became part of the Hellenic State Railways, with the remaining section north of Florina seeded to Yugoslavia. In 1970 OSE became the legal successor to the SEK, taking over responsibilities for most of Greece's rail infrastructure. Serres (regional Unit)
Serres ( el, Περιφερειακή ενότητα Σερρών) is one of the regional units of Greece, in the geographic region of Macedonia. It is part of the Region of Central Macedonia. Its capital is the city of Serres. The total population reaches just over 175,000. Geography The mountains are Orvelos to the north, Menoikio to the east, Pangaio to the southeast, Kerdylio to the southwest, Vertiskos to the west, parts of Krousi to the west and portions of the Kerkini lies to the northwest. Friendship Express
The Friendship Express ( tr, Dostluk Ekspresi, el, Εξπρές Φιλίας, ''Exprés Filías''), was an international InterCity train jointly operated by the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) and TrainOSE from July 2005 to February 2011, linking Istanbul's Sirkeci Terminal, Turkey and Thessaloniki, Greece. Eastbound trains (service 444/81021) departed daily at 19:48 from Thessaloniki arriving to Istanbul at 08:07. Westbound trains (service 81022/445) departed at 20:30 from Istanbul, arriving to Thessaloniki at 09:33. There were two trains on this service, one provided by TrainOSE and the other by TCDD. TrainOSE used OSE former SNCF type T2 sleeping cars while TCDD used TVS2000 type cars. The trains changed locomotives and crew at Pythio. This train service was terminated on 13 February 2011. Alexandroupoli railway station or Alexandroupoli Port railway station ( el, Σιδηροδρομικός Σταθμός Λιμένα Αλεξανδρούπολης, Sidirodromikos Stathmos Limena Alexandroupolis) is the main railway station of Alexandroupoli in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Greece. Proastiakos Thessaloniki
Proastiakos Thessaloniki, or Thessaloniki Suburban Railway ( el, Προαστιακός Σιδηρόδρομος Θεσσαλονίκης, ), is a three-line Proastiakos commuter rail service connecting Thessaloniki's New Railway Station with Edessa/Florina, Larissa and Serres. Hellenic Train S.A., formerly TrainOSE S.A. ( el, ΤραινΟΣΕ Α.Ε., pronounced ''trenosé'') is a private railway company in Greece which currently operates passenger and freight trains on OSE lines. TrainOSE was acquired in September 2017 by the Italian national railway company, Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane.
