Serrabrancaite
Serrabrancaite is a mineral with the chemical formula MnPO4•H2O and which is named for the locality where it was found, the Alto Serra Branca Pegmatite. The Alto Serra Branca mine has been in operation since the 1940s. It is located in Paraiba, Brazil near a village named Pedra Lavrada. Tantalite is the main mineral mined here. Specimens of serrabrancaite are kept in the Mineralogical Collections of both the Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany and the Martin-Luther Universität Halle, Institut für Geologische Wissenschaften. Occurrence The Alto Serra Branca Mine occurs where a granitic pegmatite intruded upon a biotite schist. There are many minerals found within this pegmatite. The main constituents are quartz, muscovite, microcline, and albite and amblygonite are common in smaller quantities. Phosphosiderite
Phosphosiderite is a rare mineral named for its main components, phosphate and iron. The siderite at the end of phosphosiderite comes from the word "sideros", the Greek word for iron. It was published in 1890, and has been a valid species since pre- IMA. It is an IMA approved mineral which got grandfathered, meaning its name is still believed to refer to an existing species. Properties Phosphosiderite is a member of the metavariscite group, and probably forms a complete series with metavariscite. It is the dimorph of strengite. It is totally soluble in Hydrochloric acid and nearly insoluble in nitric acid. It is usually cut into a cabochon shape for jewelry, and used as an ornamental stone. It mainly consists of oxygen (51.38%), iron (29.89%) and phosphorus (16.58%), but contains hydrogen (2.16%) as well. Eosphorite
Eosphorite is a brown (occasionally pink) manganese hydrous phosphate mineral with chemical formula: Mn Al( P O4)(O H)2· H2O. It is used as a gemstone. Eosphorite crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system. It forms slender prismatic crystals which often form radiating or spherical clusters. The crystals often show pseudo–orthorhombic forms due to twinning. Eosphorite forms a series with childrenite, the iron rich member, with divalent iron replacing most of the manganese in the crystal lattice. The two endmembers are isostructural but differ in their properties, such as crystal habit, coloration, and optical properties. It was first described in 1878 for an occurrence in the Branchville Mica Mine in Branchville, Fairfield County, Connecticut, US.
