Serpentine (foaled 20 March 2017) is an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse best known for his win in the 2020 Epsom Derby. Background Serpentine is a chestnut gelding with a white blaze and a white sock on his left hind leg bred in Ireland by the Coolmore Stud. The title of champion, or leading, sire of racehorses in Great Britain and Ireland is awarded to the stallion whose offspring have won the most prize money in Britain and Ireland during the flat racing season. Rip Van Winkle (12 February 2006 – 31 July 2020) was an Irish Thoroughbred racehorse sired by the dual Derby winner Galileo. Like his sire, Rip Van Winkle was also trained by Aidan O'Brien.
