Sergio Méndez
Sergio de Jesús Méndez Bolaños (14 February 1943 – 18 December 1976) was a football player from El Salvador who represented his country at the 1970 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. Club career Méndez came from a family of footballers, his younger brother and some first cousins were also professional soccer players for CD Luis Angel Firpo and Alianza FC. Nicknamed (El Tabudo) because of the town where he was born, Méndez played for Atlético Marte, C.D. Suchitepequez (Guatemala) and C.D.Águila where he was one of the top scorers during his years in the team. Méndez was a very good friend of Brazilian defender Zózimo Alves Calazães, both met while playing for CD Aguila. Calazães said during an interview in 1968 for La Prensa Grafica, he'd never seen a midfielder-striker with the qualities of Méndez. 1965 CONCACAF Championship
The 1965 CONCACAF Championship, the second edition of the CONCACAF Championship, was held in Guatemala from 28 March to 11 April. Qualifying Tournament Caribbean zone Jamaica, Trinidad, Dominican Republic withdrew from qualifying due to a schedule clash with qualification for the 1966 FIFA World Cup. Hosts of the final tournament, Guatemala refused to grant the Cubans visas to visit the country. Cuba complained to Helmut Käser, FIFA's General Secretary requesting for FIFA not to recognise CONCACAF. Käser stated that FIFA could not do so and referred the issue of Guatemalan visas for the Cubans to CONCACAF. As they were not able to enter the competition, Cuba withdrew. Cuba National Football Team
The Cuba national football team ( es, Selección de fútbol de Cuba) represents Cuba in men's international football and it is controlled by the Football Association of Cuba. Nicknamed Leones del Caribe (''Lions of Caribbean''), the team represents all three FIFA, Caribbean Football Union and Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF). They were the first Caribbean team to get to the World Cup Quarter finals – they did so in 1938. There, in the round of 16, they defeated Romania in a replay, 2–1, after drawing against them 3–3.
