Sergio Lanfranchi
Sergio Savaro Giovanni Lanfranchi (Parma, 27 September 1925 – Barjols, 22 January 2000) was an Italian rugby union player and coach, active in France for most of his career as flanker, number 8 and lock. He won two national championship titles, one in Italy for Parma and one in France for FC Grenoble and, in 2016, the second longest international career for Italy (between 1949 and 1964), after Mauro Bergamasco. Two sports facilities in his hometown, Parma are named after him. Biography Orphaned of both parents, after school he was a combatant in Piedmont for the Italian Resistance and, returning to Parma after the war, he started to work and play rugby union for the local team in 1946. With Parma, he collected 101 caps and won the title of Italian champion in 1950. Montceau-les-Mines () is a commune in the Saône-et-Loire department in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France. It is the second-largest commune of the metropolitan Communauté urbaine Creusot Montceau, which lies southwest of the city of Dijon. History Montceau-les-Mines is a former mining city. Coal was discovered in the area in the 16th Century. A hamlet called "Le Montceau" developed from this discovery. "Le Montceau" began to grow after the building of the Canal du Centre, built between 1783 and 1791. A business entity, "Compagnie des mines", started to extract coals in 1833. ESPNscrum was an online news site based in United Kingdom dedicate to providing the latest news in Rugby union. It provided live minute-by-minute updates on major international and club games and kept an in-depth statistics on every international rugby player and nation. Founded in 1997 by EMAP, it began as an independent website under the domain "scrum.com". It was later sold to Sportal in 1999 but after its collapse in 2001, the site was set for closure but was saved by a consortium of rugby lovers who bought the site for £100,000 from Sportal and ran the site under the name "Scrum Ltd" and paying for the sites maintenance from their own pocket for the next 6 years In August 2007, American sports media company ESPN bought the site in collaboration with Walt Disney Internet Group. The United Rugby Championship (URC) is an annual rugby union competition involving professional teams from Ireland, Italy, Scotland, South Africa, and Wales. The current name was adopted in 2021 when the league expanded to include four South African teams previously from the SANZAR Super Rugby competition. The league is one of the three major professional leagues in Europe (along with the English Premiership and the French Top 14), the most successful teams from which go forward to compete in the European Rugby Champions Cup. Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi, previously known as Stadio XXV Aprile, is a sports stadium dedicated to rugby union, located in the city of Parma in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. It replaced the original Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi which was demolished in July 2008. It is a 5,000 seat arena which hosts Crociati Parma Rugby FC and Gran Parma Rugby rugby union teams.
