Sergio Albert
Sergio Albert (born October 28, 1951) is a Mexican former American football placekicker who played one season with the St. Louis Cardinals of the National Football League. He played college football at U.S. International University. Early years Albert attended high school in Mexico City, Mexico. He first enrolled at Universidad Anáhuac México Norte for 2 years, before accepting a soccer scholarship from the U.S. International University in 1972. In the fall of 1972, he would walk on to the football team after a tryout as a soccer-style placekicker. Because he was primarily a soccer player, he appeared in only 3 football games that season. In 1973, he appeared in 10 games but had few kicking opportunities, although he made a 54-yard field goal. Placekicker
Placekicker, or simply kicker (PK or K), is the player in gridiron football who is responsible for the kicking duties of field goals and extra points. In many cases, the placekicker also serves as the team's kickoff specialist or punter. Specialized role The kicker initially was not a specialized role. Prior to the 1934 standardization of the prolate spheroid shape of the ball, drop kicking was the prevalent method of kicking field goals and conversions, but even after its replacement by place kicking, until the 1960s the kicker almost always doubled at another position on the roster. Tom Fears
Thomas Jesse Fears (December 3, 1922 – January 4, 2000) was a Mexican-American professional football player who was a split end for the Los Angeles Rams in the National Football League (NFL), playing nine seasons from 1948 to 1956. He was later an NFL assistant coach and head coach of the New Orleans Saints, and is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He played college football for the UCLA Bruins football team and is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. James LeRoy Bakken (born November 2, 1940) is an American former professional football player who was a punter and placekicker for the National Football League’s St. Louis Cardinals. He was a four-time Pro Bowl selection and was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team for both the 1960s and 1970s; Bakken is one of 29 individuals to be named to two All-Decade teams. Early career Before his NFL career, Bakken played football at Madison West High School in Madison, Wisconsin. Patrick Joseph Leahy (born March 19, 1951) is a former placekicker in the National Football League (NFL) for the New York Jets. He played college soccer at Saint Louis University. Early years Leahy attended Augustinian Academy. He accepted a soccer scholarship from Saint Louis University. As a starting midfielder, he helped lead the school to 4 soccer NCAA finals, winning 3 national championships, while also receiving All-American honors.
