Sergey F. Dezhnyuk
Serhii F. Dezhnyuk (Ukrainian: Сергій Федорович Дежнюк; born January 5, 1976) is a Ukrainian-American theologian, historian, and political analyst. He was a chair of the Ethnic Council, CBA of Oklahoma City until 2005. Since 2005, Dezhnyuk serves as a vice-president of ''Independent American Center of Political Monitoring''. Dezhnyuk specializes in historical theology with a concentration on the Council of Florence and analysis of the Union it produced. He is the author of "Council of Florence: The Unrealized Union". As a former Ukrainian politician, he also writes on the topics that intersect religion and public life. Ukrainian ( uk, украї́нська мо́ва, translit=ukrainska mova, label=native name, ) is an East Slavic language of the Indo-European language family. It is the native language of about 40 million people and the official state language of Ukraine in Eastern Europe. Written Ukrainian uses the Ukrainian alphabet, a variant of the Cyrillic script. Council Of Florence
The Council of Florence is the seventeenth ecumenical council recognized by the Catholic Church, held between 1431 and 1449. It was convoked as the Council of Basel by Pope Martin V shortly before his death in February 1431 and took place in the context of the Hussite Wars in Bohemia and the rise of the Ottoman Empire. At stake was the greater conflict between the conciliar movement and the principle of papal supremacy. The Council entered a second phase after Emperor Sigismund's death in 1437. Pope Eugene IV convoked a rival Council of Ferrara on 8 January 1438 and succeeded in drawing some of the Byzantine ambassadors who were in attendance at Basel to Italy. The remaining members of the Council of Basel first suspended him, declared him a heretic, and then in November 1439 elected an antipope, Felix V.
