Clara Sereni
Clara Sereni (28 August 1946 – 25 July 2018) was an Italian writer of Jewish descent. She was born and married in Rome where she remained until 1991. Then she moved to Perugia. She became known to critics and the public with her first book, ''Sigma Epsilon'' (1974), an autobiographical revisiting of the frenzied political times marking her generation. Her second work, ''Casalinghitudine'', written thirteen years later, is a kind of recipe book where each dish is linked with a particular moment of her own past, an indelible memory. Her popularity increased with short stories, such as ''Manicomio primavera'' (1989) and the novel ''Il gioco dei regni'' (1993), which won her two literary prizes. Sereni's activities also span the social and political arenas. In the Umbrian capital of Perugia she was elected Deputy Mayor, with the Social Policies portfolio, from 1995 to 1997. Emilio Sereni (13 August 1907, Rome – 20 March 1977, Rome) was an Italian writer, politician and historian. Biography Born into a Jewish family of anti-fascist intellectuals, Sereni graduated from the Liceo Terenzio Mamiani in Rome. Brother of the Zionist and socialist Enzo Sereni, co-founder of the kibbutz Givat Brenner, and of Enrico Sereni, a scientist linked to the anti-fascist movement ''Giustizia e Libertà'', who committed suicide at a young age. In 1926, Sereni joined the Italian Communist Party and one year later he graduated in agronomy in Portici, starting shortly after a work of proselytism in the Neapolitan area, where he met Giorgio Amendola. In 1930 he went to Paris and came into contact with Palmiro Togliatti. Returning to Italy in September of the same year, he was arrested and sentenced by the Special Tribunal for the Defense of the State to twenty years, then reduced to 15 for the accumulation of penalties. Enzo Sereni
Enzo Sereni (17 April 190518 November 1944) was an Italian Socialist Zionist, co-founder of kibbutz Givat Brenner, celebrated intellectual, advocate of Jewish-Arab co-existence and a Jewish Brigade officer who was parachuted into Nazi-occupied Italy in World War II, captured by the Germans and executed in Dachau concentration camp. Early life Sereni was born in Rome. His father was physician to the King of Italy. He grew up in a traditional Jewish Italian household but became a Zionist as a teenager and was one of the first Italian Zionists. Mario Sereni (25 March 1928 – 24 July 2015) was an Italian baritone, who sang leading roles at the New York Metropolitan Opera for many years. Sereni was born in Perugia, Italy. He attended the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome and the Accademia Chigiana in Siena where he was a pupil of Mario Basiola. His professional career began in 1953, at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and within four years he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera on 9 November 1957 as Gérard in '' Andrea Chénier''. Matteo Sereni (born 11 February 1975) is an Italian former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Career Born in Parma, Sereni started his career at UC Sampdoria, and was loaned out to A.C. Crevalcore in 1994. He returned to Sampdoria and only made 10 appearances before being transferred to Piacenza Calcio in 1997. Here he helped the club avoid relegation to Serie B, but in 1998 he transferred to Empoli F.C., where he failed to avoid relegation. In 1999, Sereni returned to Sampdoria in Serie B and made 75 (out of 76) Serie B appearances. Vittorio Sereni (27 July 1913 – 10 February 1983) was an Italian poet, author, editor and translator. His poetry frequently addressed the themes of 20th-century Italian history, such as Fascism, Italy's military defeat in World War II, and its postwar resurgence. Born at Luino, Sereni graduated from the University of Milan in 1936. In 1938, he co-founded the literary review ''Corrente di Vita''. In 1941, he published ''Frontiera'', his first collection of poetry. He was drafted into the Italian Army during World War II: captured by Allied forces in 1943, he spent the rest of the war in POW camps in Algeria and Morocco. These experiences formed the basis for his second poetry book, ''Diario d'Algeria''. After the war, Sereni worked as a teacher and literary critic.
