The Serbs of Zagreb ( sh, Srbi u Zagrebu / ) are a traditional minority group that lives in the Croatian capital Zagreb. History In 1718 the Treaty of Passarowitz opened the Danube river and the Adriatic Sea for international trade with Austrian emperors granting priviledges to Ottoman traders including the right for "Greek" merchants to settle in Trieste, Rijeka, Vienna and Zagreb. Serbs became equal citizens of Zagreb in 1781 after Emperor Francis II, Holy Roman Emperor, Francis II released an edict named Patent of Toleration. Religious life Zagreb is the seat of the Metropolitanate of Zagreb, Ljubljana and all Italy. Prosvjeta
The Serbian Cultural Society "Prosvjeta" (abbreviated: SKD "Prosvjeta" or sr-cyrl, СКД "Просвјета") in Zagreb, Croatia is an independent, non-governmental cultural and scientific organization that takes special responsibility for promoting culture of and among Serbs in Croatia. Its primary aim is preservation and development of national identity of Serbs in Croatia. The association was established on 18 November 1944 under the auspices of the State Anti-fascist Council for the National Liberation of Croatia in the period of World War II in Yugoslavia when Serb community was faced with the Genocide of Serbs in the Independent State of Croatia. It's work was interrupted in 1971 when together with Matica hrvatska it was forbidden under the accusations of promotion of nationalism after which it remained closed until 1993. Illyrian Movement
The Illyrian movement ( sh-Latn-Cyrl, Ilirski pokret, Илирски покрет; sl, Ilirsko gibanje) was a pan-South-Slavic cultural and political campaign with roots in the early modern period, and revived by a group of young Croatian intellectuals during the first half of the 19th century, around the years of 1835–1863 (there is some disagreement regarding the official dates from 1835 to 1870). This movement aimed to create a Croatian national establishment in Austria-Hungary through linguistic and ethnic unity, and through it lay the foundation for cultural and linguistic unification of all South Slavs under the revived umbrella term '' Illyrian''. Đuro Daničić
Đuro Daničić ( sr-Cyrl, Ђуро Даничић, ; 4 April 1825 – 17 November 1882), born Đorđe Popović ( sr-cyr, Ђорђе Поповић) and also known as Đura Daničić ( sr-Cyrl, Ђура Даничић), was a Serbian philologist, translator, linguistic historian and lexicographer. He was a prolific scholar at the Belgrade Lyceum. Biography He was born in Novi Sad, in the family of Orthodox priest Jovan Popović. He attended schools in Novi Sad and Bratislava, and studied law at the University of Vienna. He published his first papers under the name Đuro Daničić in 1845, after the heroic Senj Uskok from a folk poem, and a name that he continued to use throughout the rest of his life. Under the influence of Vuk Karadžić and Franz Miklosich, he started studying Slavic philology, to which he subsequently devoted his entire career. "Identitet" (; ) is a song by Albanian singers Adrian Lulgjuraj and Bledar Sejko. It was first released on 12 March 2013 as a music video release which were uploaded on the official YouTube channel of the Eurovision Song Contest, and then, it were therefore released as a single as part of a CD compilation on 29 April 2013 by Universal Music. The Albanian-language folk-inspired heavy rock song was composed by the latter singer and written by Eda Sejko. The song represented Albania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Sweden, after winning the country's pre-selection competition Festivali i Këngës. It failed to qualify for the grand final in fifteenth place marking the country's fourth non-qualification in the contest. Serb Democratic Forum ( sh, Srpski demokratski forum, Српски демократски форум) is a non-governmental organization of the Serbs of Croatia, which in cooperation with national and international organizations and institutions, protects human rights, minority rights, develops and promotes inter-ethnic tolerance and understanding and tries to restore mutual trust and respect. The speaker of the Croatian Parliament ( hr, Predsjednik Hrvatskog sabora, literally the president of the Croatian Parliament) is the presiding officer in the Croatian Parliament, Croatia's legislative body. Under Article 97 of the constitution of Croatia, the speaker of the Croatian Parliament is the only constitutional deputy to the president of Croatia and serves as acting president if the elected president vacates the office before the expiration of the five-year presidential term due to either death, resignation or removal from office (as determined by the Constitutional Court).
