Serbian Diaspora
Serbian diaspora refers to Serbian emigrant communities in the diaspora. The existence of a numerous diaspora of Serbian nationals is mainly a consequence of either economic or political (coercion or expulsion) reasons. There were different waves of Serbian migration, characterized into: #Economic emigration (end of 19th–beginning of 20th c.) #Political emigration (from 1945 up to 1967) of anti-Communist regime members, better known as the Chetnik Immigration #Economic emigration (1967 up to the 1980s) of mostly labourers with mid-level education or professionals of higher education #Political emigration (1990s) refugees of the Yugoslav Wars. The main countries of destination were Germany, Austria, United States, Sweden, Canada and Australia. Serbs In Hungary
The Serbs in Hungary ( hu, Magyarországi szerbek, sr, Срби у Мађарској / ) are recognized as an ethnic minority, numbering 7,210 people or 0.1% of the total population (2011 census). The number of Serbs in Hungary has drastically diminished; in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries large Serb communities existed throughout Hungary, notably in Buda (western Budapest), Baja, Szentendre and Szeged. The Serb community in the territory of present-day Hungary has its origin in migrations from the territory of medieval Serbian states during and after the Ottoman conquest of these states. There is a community of Serbs in Ukraine ( uk, Серби в Україні; sr, Срби у Украјини, translit=Srbi u Ukrajini), which includes Ukrainian citizens of ethnic Serb descent or Serbian-born people residing in the country. Serbs Of Slovakia
There is a small number of Serbs in Slovakia, mostly located in the southern town of Komárno, where they have been living since the 17th century. There has also been a historic minority in Bratislava ( Požun), where many Habsburg Serbs studied. The number of Slovaks of Serb descent is hard to determine but nevertheless they are recognized as an official minority. Demographics The Association of Serbs in Slovakia claim that 2,784 Serbs, born outside Slovakia, currently live in Slovakia, while another 800 Slovaks are of Serb descent. The Serbs ( sr-Cyr, Срби, Srbi, ) are the most numerous South Slavic ethnic group native to the Balkans in Southeastern Europe, who share a common Serbian ancestry, culture, history and language. The Serbs in Turkey are Turkish citizens of Serbian descent or Serbia-born people who reside in Turkey. History During the age of the Ottoman Empire most of Serbia and the Balkans were under Turkish control, and many Serbs moved to Istanbul and Anatolia for reasons ranging from economic to forceful relocation. On 28 August 1521, the Belgrade Fortress was captured by Suleiman the Magnificent, using 250,000 Turkish soldiers and over 100 ships.
