The Serbian Rugby League is the governing body for the sport of rugby league football in Serbia. The Association was formed in 2001 in Kruševac. Rugby League European Federation
The European Rugby League (ERL) is the umbrella body for nations playing the sport of rugby league football across Europe. In the absence of other continental federations, ERL also controls rugby league in North America (including Central America), the Middle East and Africa. History 2003-2019 The federation was founded January 2003 following an initiative between Richard Lewis, Executive Chairman of Britain's Rugby Football League (RFL) and his French counterpart Jean Paul Ferre. The RLEF's first constitution was approved in January 2004 and the federation's first Board of Directors was elected. This first Board of Directors consisted of Jean Paul Ferre as President/Chairman and Richard Lewis as Deputy Chairman with Nigel Wood and Nicolas Larrat being the other Board members. Serbian Rugby League Championship
The Serbian Rugby League Championship ( sr, Првенство Србије у рагбију 13 / ) is a domestic competition of rugby league played in Serbia. The competition started in 2002 when 4 teams played each other twice, once at home and once away, from April through to August. It was deemed a success and so the league continued in 2003. Since then new teams have been added and some have disappeared. Seasons 2007 and 2008 saw stabilization of rugby league scene in the country. Clubs like Podbara Novi Sad and Palilulac Hammers ( sr, Палилулац Чекићар / Palilulac Čekićar) from the city of Niš entered the competition. Very soon, Faculty of Political Sciences (FPN XIII) from Belgrade formed their own rugby league team, which is the first student's rugby team of any code in the country and the region. The Serbian Rugby League Cup is a rugby league competition, started in 2001.After three seasons, came a pause in the competitions for the Serbian Cup, because in the years of primal development, many foreign teams came to Serbia on a tour. Therefore, the place of the Serbian Cup was taken by the Serbian Rugby 13 Federation international Cup. Rugby League In Serbia
Rugby league is a team sport that is played in Serbia, which now has almost 1000 registered players nationwide, many of which are juniors. Belgrade and Novi Sad are the two main bases for the sport, producing most of the country's players. The most successful Serbian club side are the Dorćol Spiders who have won the most premierships. The other club Red Star Belgrade who defeated Dorćol in the deciding game to claim the minor premiership. History Rugby league was introduced into Serbia in 1953, by then secretary of the Yugoslavian Sport Association, Dragan Maršićević. The first rugby league match in Serbia was held in Belgrade on November 26, 1953, between French students and Selection Provence. Serbia National Rugby League Team
The Serbia national rugby league team represents Serbia in the sport of rugby league football. They have competed in international competition since 2003 under the administration of the Serbian Rugby League. They are coached by Englishman Darren Fisher, and captained by Stevan Stevanović. History 1950s–1960s Rugby League was first played in Serbia in 1953 when it was introduced by Dragan Marsicevic, secretary of the Yugoslav Sport Association. Two French teams toured later that year, and in 1954 the clubs Partizan and Radnički were formed. These clubs played their first match on 26 April 1954. In 1961 a Yugoslav Rugby League team played its only game against a French Select XIII team in Banja Luka. The French team won 13–0.
