Sentimental Romance
''Romance sentimentale'' is a 1930 French film directed by Grigori Aleksandrov and Sergei M. Eisenstein. The film is also known as ''Sentimental Romance'' (International English title). Synopsis The film opens with a montage of scenes of elemental violence—crashing waves and falling trees alternate with images of trees speeding past as if viewed from a motorcar. The imagery gradually changes to more tranquil vistas of clouds, grass swaying in a breeze, and rippling water. The first interior shot shows a woman silhouetted against a window. There are several shots of a fireplace and of clocks and their pendulums. The woman moves from the window to a piano, and begins singing a Russian song. Partway through her song, she is surrounded by starbursts and the dark, indoor setting of the scene is replaced by radiant clouds. Images of swans are intercut with images of Rodin sculptures. Grigori Aleksandrov
Grigori Vasilyevich Aleksandrov or Alexandrov (russian: Григо́рий Васи́льевич Алекса́ндров; original family name was Мормоненко or Mormonenko; 23 January 1903 – 16 December 1983) was a prominent Soviet cinema, Soviet film director who was named a People's Artist of the USSR in 1947 and a Hero of Socialist Labour in 1973. He was awarded the USSR State Prize, Stalin Prizes for 1941 and 1950. Initially associated with Sergei Eisenstein, with whom he worked as a co-director, screenwriter and actor, Aleksandrov became a major director in his own right in the 1930s, when he directed ''Jolly Fellows'' and a string of other Musical theatre, musical comedies starring his wife Lyubov Orlova. Though Aleksandrov remained active until his death, his musicals, amongst the first made in the Soviet Union, remain his most popular films. Eduard Kazimirovich Tisse (russian: Эдуа́рд Казими́рович Тиссэ́, lv, Eduards Tisē; 13 April 1897 – 18 November 1961) was a Soviet cinematographer. Early life and career He was born to an Estonian Swedish father and Russian mother in Liepāja; he grew up in Liepāja and studied both painting and photography. Tisse started his career as a newsreel cameraman working under difficult conditions. From 1916 to 1918, he worked as a military cameraman. In 1921, Tisse became a professor at Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography. His career did not take off until he worked with director Sergei Eisenstein on the film ''Strike''. Tisse would become Eisenstein's standard cinematographer for the next twenty years. Tisse, along with Eisenstein and Grigori Alexandrov went on a trip in 1929. François Auguste René Rodin (12 November 184017 November 1917) was a French sculptor, generally considered the founder of modern sculpture. He was schooled traditionally and took a craftsman-like approach to his work. Rodin possessed a unique ability to model a complex, turbulent, and deeply pocketed surface in clay.
