Sentimental (Tanita Tikaram Album)
''Sentimental'' is the seventh studio album by Tanita Tikaram, released in 2005. The album was released only on the French label Naïve Records. Background After releasing her previous album '' The Cappuccino Songs'' in 1998, Tikaram retired from the music scene and lived in Italy for a time. During the 7 year-gap between albums, she tried to start an album in the more electronic vein of her last, but she decided it wasn't working and then went on to study piano for three years, an instrument she had never learnt to play. Her piano teacher, Daniela Ronconi, eventually played several instruments on the album, as well as arranging and mixing the songs. ''Sentimental'' sees Tikaram playing the piano on a record for the first time in her career, and not her usual instrument of choice, the guitar. Tanita Tikaram
Tanita Tikaram (born 12 August 1969) is a British pop/folk singer-songwriter. She achieved chart success with the singles " Twist in My Sobriety" and " Good Tradition" from her 1988 debut album, ''Ancient Heart''. Background Tikaram was born in Münster, West Germany, the daughter of an Indo-Fijian British Army officer, Pramod Tikaram, and a Sarawakian mother, Fatimah Rohani. Her father's military career meant that she spent her early life in Germany before moving to Basingstoke, Hampshire, England when she was in her early teens. She is the younger sister of the actor Ramon Tikaram and the great-niece of Sir Moti Tikaram, who was the first Lord Chief Justice of an independent Fiji and the world's longest-serving national ombudsman. Naïve Records
Naïve Records is a French independent record label based in Paris, specializing in electronic music, pop music, jazz and classical music. Founding and expansion It was founded in 1998 by Patrick Zelnik, former CEO of Virgin France, Gilles Paires and Eric Tong Cuong. Neil Brockbank
Neil Brockbank (February 1951 – 30 May 2017) was a British record producer, audio engineer and bass player. He is known for working in close collaboration with Nick Lowe spanning 25 years, producing all of Lowe's albums since 1994's ''The Impossible Bird''. Career Before working in music production and engineering, Brockbank was a member of the 1970s folk rock band Wooden Horse then later the new wave band the Hitmen. As well as working alongside Nick Lowe, Brockbank also played instruments and produced albums for many other notable bands and artists including Mary Coughlan, Alison Moyet, Tanita Tikaram, Bryan Ferry, Martin Belmont, Geoffrey Williams, the Bolshoi, Ocean Colour Scene, Sterling Roswell, Geraint Watkins, My Darling Clementine, Micke Bjorklof & Blue Strip, Norman Bergen, Jim Lauderdale and PictureHouse. ''The Cappuccino Songs'' is the sixth studio album by British singer-songwriter Tanita Tikaram, released by Mother in 1998. Background In 1996, Tikaram left Warner Music Group, WEA, her label of eight years, and spent some time pursuing other interests than music, including art and travel. For her next studio album, Tikaram decided to re-evaluate her musical direction and reinvent her image. She signed to a new label, Mother Records, and found new management. On this album, Tikaram chose to work with Italian musician Marco Sabiu, who produced the album and co-wrote seven of the tracks. The two had first worked together in 1996, when Sabiu and his producing partner Charlie Mallozzi (known collectively as The Rapino Brothers) produced Tikaram's version of "And I Think of You - E penso a te", which was included on ''The Best of Tanita Tikaram''. Can't Go Back (album)
''Can't Go Back'' is the eighth studio album released by the British singer Tanita Tikaram. Released in September 2012 through Ear Music (an imprint of German-based label Edel Music), the album marked Tikaram's first album in 7 years, after 2005's '' Sentimental''. Background Taking another seven-year gap after her last record, Tikaram said she wanted to record an album that mixed her new-found love for Americana, Motown and Chess music, and that it took her that long to record it because she had a couple of false starts with different producers that did not work, before eventually setting with Paul Bryan. She co-wrote all the songs on the album with her longtime guitarist Mark Creswell, and recorded the ten songs that form the album in Los Angeles with producer Paul Bryan in just 6 days, in July 2010. Robert Treherne
Bobby Irwin (23 March 1953 – 8 May 2015) was an English drummer, record producer and songwriter. He is known for working in close collaboration with Nick Lowe as co-songwriter and drummer and as a member of Lowe's band the Cowboy Outfit, as well as being the drummer for Van Morrison. Irwin was also a member of the bands Roogalator, the Sinceros and the Balham Alligators. As well as working alongside Nick Lowe and Van Morrison, Irwin also played drums/produced for many other bands and artists including Bryan Ferry, John Hiatt, Lene Lovich, Paul Carrack, Carlene Carter, Billy Bremner, Geraint Watkins, Jim Lauderdale, Eleni Mandell, Norman Bergen, Tres Chicas and My Darling Clementine. Irwin was also known as Robert Trehern (or Treherne), being credited on certain releases under that name. Robert was his given name, and Trehern was his mother's maiden name.
