Senmonorom
Senmonorom ( km, សែនមនោរម្យ; ) is the capital of the province of Mondulkiri, Cambodia. It is the only major town in the province. The town has over 10,000 inhabitants, and is often compared to frontier towns in the old American west. Senmonorom (and the Mondulkiri province in general) is inhabited by the indigenous Bunong people. Bunong tribesmen and tribeswomen are often seen walking along major highways. The town is popular with NGO workers, loggers, and tourists both from outside Cambodia and from Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh. According to reports from Global Witness, the Mondulkiri province is facing a significant threat from illegal loggers attempting to exploit the area's virgin forests. List of municipalities in Cambodia by population The figures listed in the table below come from the 2018 Commune Database (CDB) published by the National Committee for Sub-National Democratic Development (NCDD). These data are recorded differently to Cambodian census data and significant variations are to be expected between the two due to internal and external migration. Sre Pok Wildlife Sanctuary
Sre Pok Wildlife Sanctuary ( km, ដែនជម្រកសត្វព្រៃស្រែពក, formerly Mondulkiri Protected Forest) is a large wildlife sanctuary in Mondulkiri Province, eastern Cambodia established on May 9, 2016, according to Sub-decree No. 85 ANKr.BK. Formerly, classified as Mondulkiri Protected Forest ( km, តំបន់ព្រៃការពារសម្រាប់អភិរក្សធនធានសេនេទិច រុក្ខជាតិ និង សត្វព្រៃ «មណ្ឌលគិរី»), established on July 30, 2002, according to Sub-decree no. 75 ANKr.BK, originally with , but was downsized in 2007. Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary
Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary ( Khmer: ដែនជម្រកសត្វព្រៃកែវសីមា) is a protected area of mixed seasonal tropical forest in eastern Cambodia, located in Mondulkiri and Kratié provinces. The area was first established as Seima Biodiversity Conservation Area in 2002, later becoming Seima Protection Forest in 2009, finally becoming Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary in 2016. Cambodia is divided into 25 provinces ( km, ខេត្ត, ). The capital Phnom Penh is not a province but an "autonomous municipality" ( km, រាជធានី, link=no, ; lit. 'Capital'), equivalent to a province governmentally and administered at the same level as the other 24 provinces. Phnom Penh has both the highest population and the highest population density of all provinces, but is the second smallest in land area. Bunong People
The Bunong (alternatively Phnong, Punong, or Pnong)Smith, P. (2010). ''The Bunong Culture of Silence: Exploring Bunong perspectives on participation at the interface between Bunong culture and development organisations.'' are an indigenous Cambodian ethnic minority group. They are found primarily in Mondulkiri province in Cambodia. The Bunong is the largest indigenous highland ethnic group in Cambodia. They have their own language called Bunong, which belongs to Bahnaric branch of Austroasiatic languages. The majority of Bunong people are animists, but a minority of them follows Christianity (Evangelical Protestantism or Roman Catholicism) and Theravada Buddhism. After Cambodia's independence in 1953, Prince Sihanouk created a novel terminology, referring to the country's highland inhabitants, including the Bunong, as Khmer Loeu ("upland Khmer").
