Senior Presiding Judge
The Senior Presiding Judge for England and Wales is a member of the Court of Appeal appointed by the Lord Chief Justice to supervise the Presiding Judges for the various judicial circuits of England and Wales. The Senior Presiding Judge is responsible for deployment and personnel issues for all circuits and acts as a "general point of liaison" for the courts, judiciary and Government. The post dates to the appointment in 1983 of Sir Tasker Watkins, who remains the longest-serving holder of the office. The arrangement was put on a statutory footing with the enactment of the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990. The Court of Appeal (formally "His Majesty's Court of Appeal in England", commonly cited as "CA", "EWCA" or "CoA") is the highest court within the Courts of England and Wales#Senior Courts of England and Wales, Senior Courts of England and Wales, and second in the legal system of England and Wales only to the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. The Court of Appeal was created in 1875, and today comprises 39 Lord Justices of Appeal and Lady Justices of Appeal. Igor Judge, Baron Judge
Igor Judge, Baron Judge, (born 19 May 1941) is an English former judge who served as the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the head of the judiciary, from 2008 to 2013. He was previously President of the Queen's Bench Division, at the time a newly created post assuming responsibilities transferred from the office of Lord Chief Justice. Constitutional Reform Act 2005
The Constitutional Reform Act 2005 (c 4) is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, relevant to UK constitutional law. It provides for a Supreme Court of the United Kingdom to take over the previous appellate jurisdiction of the Law Lords as well as some powers of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, and removed the functions of Speaker of the House of Lords and Head of the Judiciary of England and Wales from the office of Lord Chancellor. Charles Haddon-Cave
Sir Charles Anthony Haddon-Cave (born 20 March 1956), styled The Rt Hon Lord Justice Haddon-Cave, is a British judge of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales and is the Senior Presiding Judge for England and Wales. Haddon-Cave was called to the Bar (Gray's Inn) in 1978, and elected a bencher in 2003. He was called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 1980. Haddon-Cave took silk in 1999, and served as an assistant recorder from 1998 to 2000. He then served as a recorder until his appointment to the High Court on 31 October 2011, upon which occasion he was knighted. Haddon-Cave is the son of Sir Charles Philip Haddon-Cave, Chief Secretary of Hong Kong between 1981 and 1985, and elder brother of Francis, who was called to the Hong Kong bar in 1999. Dame Kathryn Mary Thirlwall, DBE (born 21 November 1957), styled The Rt Hon Lady Justice Thirlwall, is an English judge of the Court of Appeal, and since December 2019 is the Senior Presiding Judge for England and Wales. Sir Adrian Bruce Fulford (born 8 January 1953) is a retired Lord Justice of Appeal. From 2017 to 2019, he was the first Investigatory Powers Commissioner, and was the Vice-President of the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division) in 2019, succeeding Lady Justice Hallett. Peter Gross (judge)
Sir Peter Henry Gross, PC (born 13 February 1952) is a retired judge of the Court of Appeal of England and Wales. Gross was called to the Bar in 1977 (Gray's Inn). He became a Queen's Counsel in 1992. Gross was appointed a Recorder in 1995 and a Deputy High Court judge in 1999. In 2001, he was appointed to High Court, receiving the customary knighthood, and was assigned to the Queen's Bench Division. John Goldring
Sir John Bernard Goldring (born 9 November 1944, Leicester) is a British judge. He currently sits as the President of the Cayman Islands Court of Appeal, and serves as the Deputy Investigatory Powers Commissioner. He formerly sat on the Court of Appeal of England and Wales. Early life and education Thomas was born in 1947 to Roger Edward Laugharne Thomas and his wife Dinah Agnes Thomas, of Cwmgiedd. Sir Robin Ernest Auld, (born 19 July 1937) is a former Lord Justice of Appeal in the Court of Appeal of England and Wales. Early life and career Born in Staines to Adelaide ( Mackie) and Ernest Auld, a toolmaker who later became a publican, Robin Auld failed the eleven-plus exam and went to Brooklands College, a technical college.
