The Baze Senior Knockout Teams national bridge championship was held at the fall American Contract Bridge League The American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) is a governing body for contract bridge in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Bermuda. It is the largest such organization in North America having the stated mission ''"to promote, grow and sustain th ... (ACBL) North American Bridge Championship (NABC). The Senior Knockout Teams was a knock-out team event. The event typically started on the first Sunday of the NABC. The event was restricted to Seniors – players 55 years of age or older. History The event was introduced in 1994. It was renamed in 2010 in honor of Grant Baze and is contested for the Baze Trophy. It was dropped from the ACBL schedule effective January 1, 2019. The American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) is a governing body for contract bridge in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Bermuda. Carolyn Hoff Lynch (''née'' Carolyn Ann Hoff; August 26, 1946 – October 1, 2015) was an American philanthropist and contract bridge multi-national and gold medal world champion. Philanthropy Lynch, along with her husband Peter Lynch, Peter, co-founded the Lynch Foundation in 1988, and served as its chairman and president. The Lynch Foundation, valued at $125 million, gave away $8 million in 2013 and has made $80 million in grants since its inception. Garey Hayden
Garey Mark Hayden (September 9, 1944 – February 5, 2015) was an American professional bridge player and instructor from Tucson, Arizona. A World Bridge Federation (WBF) Seniors Grand Master, Hayden won five World Bridge Championships senior teams titles and nine North American Bridge Championships. A native of Easton, Maryland, Hayden was the son of Thomas and Mary Hayden. His family moved to Tucson when he was 4 years old. Hayden attended the University of Arizona, where he first learned to play bridge in 1966, and was a champion wrestler. In addition to bridge, he owned several businesses, including a travel agency, tropical fish store, and a computer store. His last major win was at the 41st World Bridge Championships in Bali, Indonesia in 2013 for the American team. The German team "won" the final and was awarded the Gold Medal in Bali. Grant Sheridan Baze (June 5, 1943 – January 11, 2009) was an American bridge player. As of 1994 he lived in San Francisco, California. Baze died in 2009. Matthew "Matt" Granovetter (born 1950) is an American bridge player and writer. Granovetter is from Jersey City, New Jersey, and graduated from Hunter College. He subsequently moved to Netanya, Israel. After spending 1993 to 2005 in Israel, he returned with his wife Pamela to the US. They now live in Cincinnati. In competition, Granovetter and Karen McCallum won the 11th quadrennial World Mixed Pairs Championship in 2006, finishing first in a field of 487. In competition at the world level, Granovetter played on second-place teams in the 1974 Mixed Teams and the 2008 Seniors Teams. The latter, third in a quadrennial series played for the Senior International Cup, was a nonmedal event at the inaugural World Mind Sports Games. Granovetter played with Russ Ekeblad on a US team that won its 5-day preliminary round-robin field of 16 teams, with Japan second.
