Semyon Kozak
Semyon Antonovich Kozak (russian: Семён Антонович Козак; – 24 December 1953) was a Ukrainians, Ukrainian Soviet Army lieutenant general who was twice awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union for his command of a division during World War II. Early life Kozak was born on in the village of Iskorost, Volhynian Governorate. During the Russian Civil War, from March 1921, he worked as a storekeeper on the Southwestern Railways, Southwestern Railroad. Kozak fought as part of a separate company of the Forces of Special Purpose (ChON) against the nationalist armed bands of Garas and Ditrovsky in Ovruch between May and August 1922. He began a year of studies at the provincial Soviet Party School at Zhitomir in October 1922 and at the end of this period was sent to Olevsk and Barash as a party worker. 23rd Rifle Division (Soviet Union)
The 23rd Rifle Division was an infantry division of the Red Army and Soviet Army, formed three times. It was formed in July 1922 in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, inheriting the Order of the Red Banner from the predecessor Zavolzhskaya Rifle Brigade. On 23 May 1932 the division was awarded the Order of Lenin for helping to construct the Kharkov Tractor Factory. On 1 March 1943 it became the 71st Guards Rifle Division for its actions in the Battle of Stalingrad. The division was reformed on 2 May 1943 on the bаsе of the 7th Rifle and 76th Naval Infantry Brigades in the Steppe Military District. The division was awarded the Order of the Red Banner, the Order of Suvorov 2nd class, and the Order of Kutuzov 2nd class for its actions. 15th Army (Soviet Union)
The 15th Army was a field army of the Soviet Red Army during the Second World War. The 15th Army, as part of the 8th Army, took part in the Winter War from February 12 to March 13. Reformed at Birobidzhan, Soviet Union, from the 2nd Red Banner Army in June 1940. It formed in July 1940 as part of the Far Eastern Front. Until August 1945 the army defended the Far Eastern borders of the USSR. On August 5 it was incorporated into the newly created 2nd Far Eastern Front. On August 9, during the Soviet–Japanese War, the 15th Army, consisting of shock troops, participated in the Sungari operation. Its advance units entered Harbin on August 20. Far Eastern Military District
The Far Eastern Military District (russian: Дальневосточный военный округ; Dalʹnevostochnyĭ voennyĭ okrug) was a military district of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. In 2010 it was merged with the Pacific Fleet and part of the Siberian Military District to form the new Eastern Military District. 10th Guards Rifle Corps
The 10th Guards Budapest Rifle Corps was a unit of the Soviet Red Army during the Eastern Front of World War II. It traces its history to the 3rd Guards Rifle Corps, originally activated in January 1942, which was redesignated the 10th Guards Rifle Corps on 13 August 1942. By Transcaucasian Front Order No. 00169 dated 3 August 1942, the corps began to form. The formation of the corps took place in the first half of August 1942 in the Makhachkala area from the previously completed 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Guards Rifle Brigades (later to be expanded into 108th, 109th, and 110th Guards Rifle Divisions). On 13 August 1942, the 3rd Guards Rifle Corps was renamed to the 10th Guards Rifle Corps. It took part in the Dnieper–Carpathian Offensive as part of the 5th Shock Army, 3rd Ukrainian Front. 73rd Guards Rifle Division
The 73rd Guards Rifle Division was reformed as an elite infantry division of the Red Army in March 1943, based on the 2nd formation of the 38th Rifle Division, and served in that role until after the end of the Great Patriotic War. As the 38th it had fought in the Battle of Stalingrad and distinguished itself during Operation Ring in the 64th Army. It remained assigned to that Army when it was redesignated as the 7th Guards Army. Unusually, the division, as well as its four regiments, were all granted honorific titles following the battle. It moved north to the Kursk area joining Voronezh Front and played an important role in the defense of the Northern Donets River south of the salient as part of the 25th Guards Rifle Corps during Operation ''Zitadelle''. The 64th Army (russian: 64-я армия) was a field army established by the Soviet Union's Red Army during the Second World War. Formed as the 1st Reserve Army as part of the Reserve of the Supreme High Command in April 1942, the formation was designated as the 64th Army in July 1942. The Army distinguished itself at the Battle of Stalingrad, was granted Guards status and renamed the 7th Guards Army in April 1943. 51st Rifle Division (Soviet Union)
The 51st Rifle Division was an infantry division of the Soviet Army, formed twice. Its first formation was formed during the Russian Civil War and fought in the Perekop-Chongar Offensive in 1920. It also fought in the Soviet invasion of Poland, Winter War and World War II. During World War II, it fought in the Battle of Rostov, Barvinkove-Losowaja Operation and Second Battle of Kharkov before being destroyed at the Battle of Voronezh. Officially disbanded on 28 November 1942, the division was reformed on 15 April 1943 from the 15th Rifle Brigade. The 2nd formation fought in Operation Bagration and the Battle of Königsberg.
