Dean Semler ACS ASC (born 26 May 1943) is an Australian cinematographer and film director. Over his career, he has worked as a cinematographer, camera operator, director, second unit director, and assistant director. He is a three-time recipient of the AACTA Award for Best Cinematography and an Academy Award winner. He is a member of both the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) and the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC). In 2002 he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM). Andrée Sfeir-Semler (born 1953 in Beirut, Lebanon) is an art historian and gallery owner. The Sfeir-Semler Gallery has branches in Hamburg, Germany and Beirut, Lebanon, and both locations represent artists working in the field of conceptual art with a preference on political subjects. Since 2003, Sfeir-Semler Gallery has focused on contemporary art from the Arab World. Early life and education Andrée Sfeir-Semler studied fine art at the American University of Beirut and filmmaking at the "Centre for cinema and television" in Beirut. Grace Semler Baldridge (born November 12, 1990), known by the stage name Semler, is an American host and alt-Christian singer-songwriter. Biography Baldridge's father is a priest in the Episcopal Church (United States), Episcopal Church. They spent their early life in Delaware but their family moved to Waterloo, Belgium, when they were in third grade. They returned to the US to attend Elon University. Baldridge is queer. Johann Salomo Semler (18 December 1725 – 14 March 1791) was a German church historian, biblical commentator, and critic of ecclesiastical documents and of the history of dogmas. He is sometimes known as "the father of German rationalism". Youth and education He was born at Saalfeld in the Electorate of Saxony, the son of a poor clergyman. He grew up in pietistic surroundings, which powerfully influenced him his life through, though he never became a Pietist. James "Soldier Boy" Semler was an American sports executive who co-owned the New York Black Yankees of the Negro National League (1933–1948), Negro National League. For much of the club's history, he owned the team along with Bill Robinson. Career Semler worked as a tailor in Harlem. When the Harlem Stars reorganized as the New York Black Yankees in 1932, Semler served as the club's inaugural secretary. In 1933, Semler, with the help of Nat Strong, secured control of the team after president M.E. Goodson and treasurer Oscar Barnes withdrew their financial interests. He retained the role of secretary while also acting as team president. In March 1935, George Scales, who managed the club from 1932 to 1934, sued Semler, arguing that he had no right to be team's sole owner. Leonore Semler (19 March 1921, in Hanover – 19 October 2016, in Munich) was a German philanthropist and founder in 1963 of the German branch of the African Medical and Research Foundation (now known as Amref Health Africa). She headed the organization until 2009 and raised millions of euros on its behalf. Jack Semler
John D. 'Jack' Semler is an American ice hockey coach and former player who was the first head coach for Maine. Career Jack Semler played at Vermont for four seasons during the short period when it was a Division II program. After graduating he eventually rose to become the head coach at Princeton. After four unproductive seasons with the Tigers he accepted the post to be the first head coach for Maine's ice hockey program. Semler posted winning records in both seasons that Maine played in Division II and helped the Black Bears to a good showing in their first year at the Division I level. The program slumped a bit beginning in 1981–82, and though improvement was shown in his final season, Semler left the college ranks in 1984. Semler would continue coaching but wouldn't return to the NCAA until 2006 when he became an assistant for Skidmore College. Career He started his career playing in youth systems of Slovenian side NK Mura and Croatian side NK Varteks before moving to Bayern Munich's youth system in the summer of 2001.
