Semer, Suffolk
Semer is a small village and civil parish in Suffolk, England. Located adjacent to a bridge over the River Brett on the B1115 between Hadleigh and Stowmarket, it is part of Babergh district. The parish also contains the hamlets of Ash Street and Drakestone Green. The parish was recorded in the 2011 census as having a population of 130, down from 158 in the previous census. History Semer is recorded in the Domesday Book as belonging to Bury St Edmunds Abbey in both 1066 and 1086. The abbey acted as both Lord of the Manor and Tenant-In-Chief. The village is recorded as home to 20 households: six villagers, 13 small holders and one slave. It is recorded as having enough ploughland for 3 lord's plough teams and 3 men's plough teems; and the village also had 12 acres of meadow, a mill, a church, 0.25 acres of church land, 16 cattle, 2 cobs, 24 pigs and 97 sheep. John Semer Farnsworth
John Semer Farnsworth (August 13, 1893 – November 10, 1952) was a United States Navy officer who was convicted of spying for Japan during the 1930s. He was identified as Agent K in radio messages intercepted by the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI). Naval career and court-martial Farnsworth, who was born in Chicago, Illinois to Frederick Wilkinson Farnsworth and Anna M. Semer, was appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 1911 on the recommendation of then-Representative Nicholas Longworth. He became notorious for his drinking escapades, earning him the nickname "Dodo" (among others). The Naval Academy yearbook described him as "daring and reckless", further stating that if Farnsworth lived in the days of the old navy, he "would have been famous for his desperate deeds and hairbreadth escapes". Milton Semer
Milton Phillip Semer (March 5, 1919 – July 27, 2016) was an American lawyer. Early life and education Career He was General Counsel for the U.S. Housing and Home Finance Agency from 1961 to 1966. Semer oversaw the campaign of Democratic Party politician Edmund S. Muskie. His work on the 1972 Edmund Muskie for President Committee landed him on the master list of Nixon's political opponents. He was lawyer for Fernand St. Germain, Democratic U.S. Representative from Rhode Island, during an ethics investigation; St. Germain was cleared of all charges in 1987.
