Sellin
Sellin is a municipality on the Island of Rügen, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. History First mentions of Sellin date to 1295. From 1880 on, the town gained importance as a Baltic Sea spa town. After the '' Wende'' in 1989, the building stock in the village was extensively renovated. In 1992, Sellin Pier was rebuilt and was officially opened on 2 April 1998. Culture and sights ''Wilhelmstraße'', with its houses from the resort architecture period (turn of the 19th and 20th century), runs up to the steep coast, up to 30 metres high - where there is a steep flight of steps or a lift to Sellin Pier or the promenade on the South Beach (''Südstrand''). Sellin has the longest pier on Rügen: 394 metres. Since 1991 the historic centre has been thoroughly renovated as part of a programme of urban development. David Sellin
David Frost Sellin (13 April 1930, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – 11 April 2006, Washington, D.C.) was an American art historian, curator, educator, and author. He taught at a number of universities, worked on the staffs of several museums, and served as curator of the U.S. Capitol, 1976-1980. Biography He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Thorsten and Amy Anderson Sellin. He attended Quaker schools. As a teenager, he studied privately with painter Frank B. A. Linton, a former student of Thomas Eakins. He spent a year in Sweden in the atelier of painter Otte Sköld. He received a bachelor's degree, 1952 magna cum laude, and a master's degree in art history, 1956, from the University of Pennsylvania. He returned to Stockholm to study for a year at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts, and studied for two years in Rome as a Fulbright scholar. Deborah Mary Sellin (born 1 October 1964) is a Church of England priest serving as Bishop of Southampton, a suffragan bishop in the Diocese of Winchester, and acting as diocesan Bishop of Winchester. Early life and education Sellin is originally from Scotland, and was born in Dumfries on 1 October 1964. She studied at the University of St Andrews, graduating with an undergraduate Master of Arts (MA Hons) degree in 1986. She worked a manager in the National Health Service (NHS) and then as a family and children's worker. Johannes Sellin (born 31 December 1990) is a former German handball player and handball coach. for MT Melsungen and the German national team. He was part of the German team that won the 2016 European Men's Handball Championship. Kjell Rune Sellin (born 1 June 1989) is a former Norwegian footballer. He came to Rosenborg BK from Norwegian Second Division team Byåsen IL in August 2008. He made his debut for Rosenborg as a substitute in the 4-0 loss against Tromsø IL the same month as he arrived to the club. 1 January 2017 he signed for Sandnes Ulf. Robbin Sellin (born 12 April 1990) is a Swedish former footballer who played as a midfielder. Career Sellin started playing football at the age of four when he joined his hometown club BKV Norrtälje. After having also spent some time as a youth player at Allsvenskan club Djurgårdens IF he was signed to a first team contract by third-tier side IK Brage in 2009. Two and a half years later, in the middle of the 2012 season, he had impressed enough to make the move up to Allsvenskan when he was signed by GIF Sundsvall. Johan Thorsten Sellin (26 October 1896 – 17 September 1994) was a Swedish American sociologist at the University of Pennsylvania, a penologist and one of the pioneers of scientific criminology. Biography Sellin was born in Örnsköldsvik in Västernorrland County, Sweden and came to Canada with his parents when he was 17 years old. He received his bachelor's degree from Augustana College in Illinois when he was 19. He went on to receive a master's degree and doctoral degree in sociology from the University of Pennsylvania. He taught at the University of Pennsylvania from 1922 until becoming Professor Emeritus in 1967. Dr. Sellin came to prominence in the 1920s and 30s for his studies in the use of criminal statistics at local, state, national and international levels. He later helped draft the U.S. Uniform Criminal Statistics Act in 1944. Fannie Sellins
Fannie Sellins (1872 – August 26, 1919) was an American union organizer. Born Fanny Mooney in New Orleans, Louisiana, she married Charles Sellins in St. Louis, Missouri. After his death she worked in a garment factory to support her four children. She helped to organize Local # 67 of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union in St. Louis, where she became a negotiator for 400 women locked out of a garment factory. Thus she came to the attention of Van Bittner, president of District 5 of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA). In 1913, she moved to begin work for the mine workers union in West Virginia. Her work, she wrote, was to distribute "clothing and food to starving women and babies, to assist poverty stricken mothers and bring children into the world, and to minister to the sick and close the eyes of the dying."
