''Self-Made Maids'' is a 1950 short subject directed by Jules White starring American slapstick comedy team The Three Stooges ( Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Shemp Howard). It is the 124th entry in the series released by Columbia Pictures starring the comedians, who released 190 shorts for the studio between 1934 and 1959. Plot The Stooges are artists who fall in love with three models, Larraine, Moella and Shempetta. The short begins with the three models getting ready for their portrait sitting. After they are finished, they do not want to be late, and begin to skip out of the door. Larraine and Shempetta crash into the wall while Moella falls into the next room. At the studio, the Stooges accidentally ruin each other's work, but calm down when the models arrive. Jules White
Jules White (born Julius Weiss; hu, Weisz Gyula; 17 September 190030 April 1985) was a Hungarian-American film director and producer best known for his short-subject comedies starring The Three Stooges Early years White began working in motion pictures in the 1910s, as a child actor, for Pathé Studios. He appears in a small role as a Confederate soldier in the landmark silent feature ''The Birth of a Nation'' (1915). By the 1920s his brother Jack White (film producer), Jack White had become a successful comedy producer at Educational Pictures, and Jules worked for him as a film editor. Jules became a film director, director in 1926, specializing in comedies such as The Battling Kangaroo (1926). In 1930 White and his boyhood friend Zion Myers moved to the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio. It is the 188th entry in the series released by Columbia Pictures starring the comedians, who released 190 shorts for the studio between 1934 and 1959. Plot The Stooges have lost their jobs. Adding insult to injury, they received a letter from Dad with the news that he requires surgery. To help pay for the operation, the father suggests the boys search for uranium on his mining property. The boys locate the uranium, but run afoul of a load of dynamite. Then, when they are trying to fix the water pump, it starts gushing oil. Joe tries to cork it by sitting on it, but he is sent flying into the air. When he wishes it would stop, it does, much to Moe and Larry's dismay. The Three Stooges were an American vaudeville and comedy team active from 1922 until 1970, best remembered for their 190 short subject films by Columbia Pictures. Their hallmark styles were physical farce and slapstick. Six Stooges appeared over the act's run (with only three active at any given time): Moe Howard (born Moses Horwitz) and Larry Fine (born Louis Feinberg) were mainstays throughout the ensemble's nearly 50-year run and the pivotal "third stooge" was played by (in order of appearance) Shemp Howard (born Samuel Horwitz), Curly Howard (born Jerome Horwitz), Shemp Howard again, Joe Besser, and "Curly Joe" DeRita. Felix Adler (January 22, 1884 – March 25, 1963) was an American screenwriter whose career spanned over 30 years. He is known for his work with the Three Stooges, including their ''Men in Black'' (1934), which received an Academy Award nomination for " Best Short Subject - Comedy". Life Adler was born on January 22, 1884, in Chicago, Illinois. He started out as a vaudeville actor and then became a title writer for Mack Sennett silents in the early 1920s, easing into talkies with three Harold Lloyd features and as a staff writer for the Columbia Pictures Short Subject department, a position he held until its demise in 1957. While the vast majority of Adler's writing credits were for Sennett and Three Stooges short subjects, Adler co-wrote six features for Laurel and Hardy as well as two for Abbott and Costello.
