Seletar Teleport
The Seletar Teleport (; ) is the third of four satellite earth station in Singapore after the Bukit Timah Satellite Earth Station in Bukit Timah, and the Sentosa Satellite Earth Station in Sentosa Island. It is located near Lower Seletar Reservoir in Yio Chu Kang, opposite Seletar Expressway (SLE). This station is managed and owned by SingTel. Satellite Earth Station
A ground station, Earth station, or Earth terminal is a terrestrial radio station designed for extraplanetary telecommunication with spacecraft (constituting part of the ground segment of the spacecraft system), or reception of radio waves from astronomical radio sources. Ground stations may be located either on the surface of the Earth, or in its atmosphere. Earth stations communicate with spacecraft by transmitting and receiving radio waves in the super high frequency (SHF) or extremely high frequency (EHF) bands (e.g. microwaves). When a ground station successfully transmits radio waves to a spacecraft (or vice versa), it establishes a telecommunications link. Bukit Timah Satellite Earth Station
The Bukit Timah Satellite Earth Station (Chinese: 武吉知马卫星地面站; ) is the second satellite earth station in Singapore after Sentosa Satellite Earth Station in Sentosa Island. The station is located in Bukit Timah near Chantek flyover between the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) and Pan Island Expressway (PIE). As it is located next to the BKE, motorists coming into Singapore via the causeway see this as their first landmark other than Woodlands. History The station is managed and owned by Singtel with the construction starting in 1983 and finishing in December 1985. It was built due to the Sentosa Satellite Earth Station not being able to accommodate additional antennas. Bukit Timah, often abbreviated as Bt Timah, is a planning area and residential estate located in the westernmost part of the Central Region of Singapore. Bukit Timah lies roughly from the Central Business District, bordering the Central Water Catchment to the north, Bukit Panjang to the northwest, Queenstown to the south, Tanglin to the southeast, Clementi to the southwest, Novena to the east and Bukit Batok to the west. Owing to its prime location, Bukit Timah has some of the densest clusters of luxury condominiums and landed property in the city, with very few public housing. Sentosa Island
Sentosa Island, known mononymously as Sentosa, and formerly ''Pulau Belakang Mati'', is an island located off the southern coast of Singapore's main island. The island is separated from the main island of Singapore by a channel of water, the Keppel Harbour, and is adjacent to Pulau Brani, a smaller island wedged between Sentosa and the main island. Formerly used as a British military base and afterwards as a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp, the island was renamed Sentosa and was planned to be a popular tourist destination. Lower Seletar Reservoir
Lower Seletar Reservoir (Chinese: 实里达蓄水池下段 ; ms, Takungan Air Seletar Bawah) is a reservoir located in the northern part of Singapore, to the east of Yishun New Town. The reservoir has a surface area of 3.6 km², and a capacity of 9.5 million m³. The mean depth of the reservoir is 2 m, with a maximum depth of 5.5 m. The shoreline length is 14.3 km. History Lower Seletar Reservoir was constructed under the Sungei Seletar/Bedok Water Scheme, completed in 1986. The scheme involved the damming of Sungei Seletar to form Lower Seletar Reservoir, the creation of Bedok Reservoir from a former sand quarry and the construction of Bedok Waterworks. Its unique feature was the construction of nine stormwater collection stations to tap the storm runoffs of the surrounding urbanised catchments. Yio Chu Kang
Yio Chu Kang is a sub-urban area in the northeast of Singapore, with proximity to the Ang Mo Kio, Lentor, Seletar and Sengkang areas. Deriving its name from the Yio Chu Kang Village, it is still known for lush greenery and low-density housing with high-rise public housing in its southern fringes. Background The name Yio Chu Kang, similar to Choa Chu Kang and Lim Chu Kang did not come from names of famous people unlike many other road names in Singapore. The word 'Kang' - means river, while 'Chu' was apparently a clan. The word 'Chu' itself means "owner" or "land". The clan was hence named Kangchu because it was controlled by the Chu clan and they were situated around a river. Seletar Expressway
The Seletar Expressway (Abbreviation: SLE) is a highway in Singapore that traverses the northern end of the island and joins the Central Expressway (CTE) and the Tampines Expressway (TPE) in Seletar to the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) in Kranji. History In the 1980s, the SLE was proposed to link BKE in Kranji to the junction of TPE and CTE in Yio Chu Kang. In 1983, it was announced that SLE would only be built after work on the northern expansion of SLE from Toa Payoh to Yio Chu Kang was completed. The first phase of the construction of SLE consisted of a stretch between Yio Chu Kang and Upper Thomson Road and was opened on 24 March 1990. Later on, this stretch was extended on 24 March 1990 to connect SLE and CTE. Later, it was extended from Upper Thomson Road to the BKE. Seletar
Seletar is an area located in the north-east of Singapore. Its name can also refer to the Seletar Planning Area (as defined by the Urban Redevelopment Authority), situated in the North-East Region of Singapore. The place name was derived from the Malay subgroup who were indigenous to the area, the ''Orang Seletar''. It shares boundaries with the planning areas of Sengkang to the south, Punggol to the east, Yishun and Simpang to the west, as well as the Straits of Johor to the north. Formerly Royal Air Force Station Seletar Royal Air Force military airfield site, the area now houses a new S$60 million Seletar Aerospace Park that spans 140 hectares. The aerospace park houses industries specialising in aircraft maintenance and repair services.
