Selectric Records
Selectric Records was an independent record label based in Franklin, TN. Their roster was made up of a number of rock bands, including Monday Morning, Cross Culture (now known as Over Ashes), Dalton, Pivitplex, Homeless J., and High Flight Society. Selectric Records was started by industry veterans, John Elefante & Dino Elefante. Closing In December 2006 Selectric Records officially closed their doors. Prior to Selectric Records closing, Cross Culture and Monday Morning had bought out of their recording contracts. While High Flight Society was signed by Rocketown Records and released their debut album in May 2007. An independent record label (or indie label) is a record label that operates without the funding or distribution of major record labels; they are a type of small- to medium-sized enterprise, or SME. The labels and artists are often represented by trade associations in their country or region, which in turn are represented by the international trade body, the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN). Many of the labels started as producers and distributors of specific genres of music, such as jazz music, or represent something new and non-mainstream, such as Elvis Presley in the early days. Indies release rock, soul, R&B, jazz, blues, gospel, reggae, hip hop, and world music. Franklin is a city in and county seat of Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. About south of Nashville, it is one of the principal cities of the Nashville metropolitan area and Middle Tennessee. As of 2020, its population was 83,454. It is the seventh-largest city in Tennessee. The city developed on both sides of the Harpeth River, a tributary of the Cumberland River. Monday Morning is a Christian alternative rock band from North Carolina, U.S. In 2005 they released their major label debut through Selectric Records, '' Fool's Paradise'', and are known for their number 1 hit song "Wonder of It All (Next Year)". History In high school, lead vocalist Derek Stipe met Kent Rector, who played drums. Soon Rector, Stipe and his brother Kevin began jamming together. After playing with a few other people, the group eventually narrowed down to four members: the Stipe brothers, Rector, and Justin Blythe who they knew from their church. Lead singer Stipe said, "We thought we kinda had something special, so we started playing out, getting better, and it just exploded from there." John Elefante (born March 18, 1958) is an American singer-songwriter, instrumentalist, and record producer. From 1981-1984, he was lead vocalist of the rock group Kansas and is currently touring with several groups that have featured members from classic rock bands. His credits include writing and singing lead vocals on three multi-platinum albums. He produced albums that have earned numerous GMA Dove Awards, four Grammy Awards (most recently in 2000), and ten Grammy nominations. He has maintained a close working relationship with his brother, Dino, co-writer of several Kansas songs. Rocketown Records
Rocketown Records was an independent record label which was started in 1996 by Michael W. Smith. In the fall of 1995, met with Don Donahue, A&R director at Reunion Records, to discuss creation of the label. In 1996, Word Records bought a minority share of the company. Imprint In 2006, Rocketown started the RKT Music imprint label to concentrate on a younger demographic. The first album released was ''Lifegiver'' by Hyper Static Union as a partnership between Rocketown and the Christian rock band Third Day. Hyper Static Union was signed to a production deal with Third Day's Consuming Fire Productions. Additional releases by RKT include ''Learning to Lose'' by the Turning and High Flight Society.
