Sekiya Seikei
, alternatively Sekiya Kiyokage, was a Japanese geologist, one of the first seismologists, influential in establishing the study of seismology in Japan and known for his model showing the motion of an earth-particle during an earthquake. Sekiya took up the study of the earthquakes in 1880. Masanori Sekiya
is a racing car driver, most famous for being the first Japanese driver to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in 1995. Sekiya drove in single-seaters in his early career, contesting the Japanese Formula 3000 Championship and Formula Nippon from 1987 to 1993, mostly for the Leyton House team. He never achieved any victories, but finished 4th in the standings in 1988 and 1989, scoring three and four podiums, respectively. A long-time works Toyota driver, Sekiya drove in the All Japan Sports Prototype Championship, All Japan Grand Touring Championship and Japanese Touring Car Championship, a series which he won in 1994, driving a Toyota Chaser for the Tom's team. He was also runner-up the following year. As Sekiya is rather fond of Le Mans, in 1987, he got married in the town prior to the race. is a Japanese ultramarathon and marathon runner from Sagamihara, Kanagawa. He is the current Asian record holder of the 24-hour run with the distance of , which he achieved in 2007 at Soochow International Ultra-Marathon. He is a four-time IAU 24 Hour World Championship winner, which makes him the athlete with the most wins in the event. Other notable wins of Sekiya include eight wins at the IAU-endorsed Soochow International Ultra-Marathon held in Taipei. The Sekiya Kinen (Japanese 関屋記念) is a Grade 3 horse race for Thoroughbreds aged three and over, run in August over a distance of 1600 metres on turf at Niigata Racecourse. The Sekiya Kinen was first run in 1966 and has held Grade 3 status since 1984. The race distance was 2000 metres before being reduced to 1800 metres in 1970 and to 1600 metres in 1975. The race was run twice at Fukushima Racecourse, over 1200 metres in 1988 and 1700 metres in 2000.
